Eddie's take on the new MK expansion would be great, as it seems some of this is a direct resurrection of some DLP projects, specifically the Be Our Guest Restaurant.

What would Eddie have thought?

If I may wager a guess:

Eddie said in this thread that what the MK lacks most, is some pixie dust. That MK looks a bit stale, and could do with more 'DLP' theming.

This, I think, the new plan delivers. Regardless of whatever other thoughts one may have about the FL extention, and about which I won't speculate.

The Fantasyland make-over seems like it would be an Imagineers dream project. It really lends itself to going over the top with your design. I sure hope they put together a great team.

Rides are great, but to me the real impact of this project is going to be how it adds to the aesthetics of the Magic Kingdom overall.

Yes! Details upon details. Stories in the details. Placemaking in the stories.

It's all about the aesthetics. The rides are secondary.

I still hope they go all out on TLM like promised :O. The story is so classic and the songs are all lovable. DONT MESS IT UP. :xmas:

MK Fantasyland

Just dropping in (been on the road) to say that I agree with those who value the proposed Fantasyland "placemaking" efforts in MK. I did not go to D23 or any of that stuff, but looked at the art online.

I have always loved the little "Storybookland Canal Boat" ride at Disneyland where you can visit all of these different villages and Castles in the miniature countryside. What they are showing in the art for MK "beyond the castle walls" is making that idea real to an extent and that's great. MK needs those hilltop forced perspective castles in the distance and the magical sense that Fantasyland is somewhat limitless. The little castle atop the "Queen of Hearts" TDL Restaurant actually looks believable so I'm converted into thinking you almost can force anything if the math is done right. MK Fantasyland is very literal in its architecture, borrowing more from Castles of the real world, and needs the DLP fantasy aspect injected asap. Putting the newer, more fanciful design "beyond the wall" allows both styles to exist and actually will make a nice contrast IMHO. I could see them repeating this in other parks where it makes sense.

Of course, it's a "Princess Collection" version of Toontown where the Character "meet and greet" IS the attraction, but that's valid. They wouldn't do it if there was not the demand for it. I do wonder if there is enough in F'land for young boys to do, but that's always been an issue. Not exactly a Harry Potter competitor in a direct sense, but maybe it's not meant to, just an essential that is overdue. It's about time there was a payoff behind that amazing Castle. It's time for the MK to actually have some more magic back there, and this looks like it will add that. It looks thematically VERY rich and will be something everyone will want to explore. The Mermaid Ride should be great as well. Just my two cents.

Bravo WDI.

The story will be in the details of the new design of Fantasyland, and Fantasy Forest. There's no doubt in my mine about that. Do you think the Mermaid Ride will have to be on the scale, and quality of the Winnie the Pooh Ride in TDL for this project to be quantified as a success in the eyes of the public or do you believe, if done properly, the scope of the project is enough to guarantee success without an innovative E-ticket type ride?

I thought that I read (somewhere) that the Villains will be in the "Fantasy Forest" area for the young boys.

I can't speak for Eddie but from the plans ive seen Little Mermaid will be far superior to Tokyo's Pooh. Although I love that trackless ride system.

I have no idea, but hopefully LM will blow Pooh away.

In my opinion, if LM does turn out to be superior to Pooh, and if Fantasy Forest is done in the proper way, this will be a classic area of WDW capable of competeing with design elements of DLP, and TDS.

I'm really interested in how they are going to use the forced perspective in all of this.

Well said, and equated, Mr. Sotto! Thanks.

Well said Eddie.
If this expansion is done properly, the juxtaposition between the Fantasy Fair and the Fantasy Forest could provide a statement on duality that is evident in Adventureland (AL Proper and Caribbean Plaza) and Frontierland (FL Proper and Liberty Square).

The main "story" of the land could be that the "fair" is taking place inside the courtyard of the castle, but the wild Forest outside the castle walls is the true Fantasyland that exists as far as the eye can see.

The new FL has the potential to be a truly magical place.
