Thanks Mr Sotto

I have been a lurker on these boards for a very long time, and while this is not the first thread that made me want to post, this is in fact my first post.

Seeing Mr Sotto respond to the questions and comments in this thread gave me a new appreciation for what it means to be an imagineer.

Kudos also to the moderator of this forum, it's one of the best Disney forum's I've had the pleasure of reading.

I'm sorry to say this, but tomorrow I'll need to get back into work at the studio and the restaurant and won't be on the boards that often. It's been great chatting with all of you and answering the questions that grew out of the online interviews. I hope this thread has given you a bit of insight into what Imagineers go through to get ideas into reality, even if they are not always 100% of what we intend, we do practically kill ourselves at times to deliver the best we know how and will always continue

Thanks for the fun!
Eddie .

Thanks for dropping in, Eddie. Please come back as your schedule allows. It's great to have your perspective and hear things that we weren't privvy to. ... It's funny, today I saw a picture of you and the EDL team from (I believe) 10/91 in an old copy of WD-Eye a friend gave me years ago ... it was the final media showing of the park before the opening. It seems like ancient history yet I can still remember watching the opening special (Cher in Discoverland comes to mind) like it was yesterday.

Sorry you can't stay ... I was going to go off on a rant as to why I think MS was a very wasted opportunity (and I never knew you were even a part of that project until reading this thread) but now why bother?:animwink:

Anyway, hope to see you around here every now and again and hopefully at Rivera this summer!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
yes I remember that. I still don't understand why this ride system has not been implemented yet. I do vaguely remember the Test Track crew talking about it but I think they went so far over budget that they ended up cutting this function, among others, to get it open. I think many would be surprised how far into design and R&D we got for this project. As fun as the ride system was, some of the show elements we mocked up had a lot of promise as well.
Well wouldn't it be a step back to use that now that we have the cars for Dinosaur and Indy?

Dribbling Drawbridges Batman!

What do you think of relighting the DL and WDW Castles in "LA Laker" (purple/yellow) and "Orlando Magic" (blue and white?) colors during the series to represent an East West wager? (Park Managers agreed to walk Main Street in mouse hats designed for the winning team.)

THE PRO: At first glance, I think it's a great way to get free press and ride the fan mania of the NBA like they did the "I'm going to Disneyland" thing in the NFL. So it's kinda fun unless you hate the Lakers. Then I gots to thinking.

THE CON? What about the core idea of the parks, and especially the those parks being "escapes" and not being polluted by the outside, "real" world? Does this means that the Castle can become a theatrical "poker chip" to be used to support all kinds of events, sports teams, and causes? Does it cheapen the memories or the icon itself? If I owned the LA Angel's would I not ask for a Red Castle at the World Series? Where does it end? The parks promote all kinds of special events (banners across Main Street welcoming some company or supporting the troops, etc) but seldom have I seen them use the sacred Castle icon to associate any secular sponsor or make a statement other than its own theme. Sleeping Kobe's Castle?

Thoughts? (Stirring the pot)

I don't have a problem with it...yet. This is a very rare occasion that is unlikely to happen again. I think it's kinda neat just this once. Guests probably won't even notice.

In my opinion, it's worse to have empty buildings taking up the majority of DTD, cheap celebration banners throughout the parks (regardless of theming issues)...I could go on and on.

There are several features, including the rear lateral articulation, that aren't used in the EMV as pronounced as they could be in the Tracy system. I was also referring to some of the show technology along with it.

I think lighting the castle in Magic colors is a great idea. It's not like the logo is shining all over it. It doesnt seem to be a bad idea as long as it is at disneys discretion. Doesnt seem any worse than the castle being pink on valentines day or red white and blue on july 4th... or as some one mentioned a birthday cake.

I don't mind it at all. They didn't over promote it, and quite frankly...Cindy Castle looks good in Blue and White.
