Agree.. it's fun and low key enough, the lights are less distracting than some of the Disney branded stuff that IMHO is way more intrusive (like the birthday cakes, hats, and wands you see with other icons).

Maybe it's the purist or designer side of me, but the Castles have always been kind of majestic and elegant in themselves, never silly, and depend on their own forced perspective that when decorated is easily violated when "pimped" with big applied objects. Other than banners or lighting, I'd just leave them alone. I'm sure guests love them decorated.

The LED lights they have now allow for any color to be used and that makes it easy to change. I don't think the NBA crosses that line and is a fun and harmless way of getting some free press. As was said, they aren't making a big deal out of it, so insiders will get it but most guests will not.

How long is it proposed to last?

Agreed for the lost part.

As for the decorating...It depends. The Cake (is a lie), Hat, and Wand of course are too over the top. HCOE's plussing was OK in my mind. It showed most of the castle with the gold trim. DL's was more subtle, WDW's more extreme. (wonder why...;) ) Either way, they worked for just that event.

Or course the ultimate is Tokyo Disneyland's 25th, whose small display of lights and curtains was very subtle, and VERY classy looking.

I agree, although I pretty much wish that Disney would stop doing such over the top and unnecessary things for its celebrations. Kind of a waste of money when you think about it. I think some simple decorations, new shows/parades, and some new attraction openings would do just fine.

Right.

Have you seen Tokyo's though? Lovely nod to the Celebration but not over the top...

This doesn't bother me (lighting the castle to match NBA team appropriate colors). Cindy's castle is frequently lit in blue anyway. If they do it, pics would be appreciated.

Though, better would be if the winning team had to go to the opposing park for the "You just won the NBA championship, what are you going to do next?" commercial.

Hey Eddie' Great to see you back on the boards.
Anyway' I was looking through my "Art of Disneyland" book and noticed a marker drawing you had done for the 94 Jungle Cruise Boathouse queue which is in my opinion one of the best queues in the Disney Parks.

JWG' as for the yellow and purple Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Okay, in all honesty, if no one had told me they were doing the Finals colors on the castles, I would never know. As others said, unless you're an insider, there's no way you'd know about this. They both look great! Neat idea by the folks at Disney. :)
