So... Remember the plans for a resort in Fort Wilderness? And the leaked plan of a structure on River Country?

And how about a new Wilderness Railroad to link this growing resort area?

And if it were to be a DVC based on the early 90s Buffalo Junction?

Makes you wonder..

Wilderness Railroad would make me excited!

The old River Country site is an embarrassment. While I'm not excited about DVC, cleaning up that site is a great move.

God I hope we get some sort of edited from of Buffalo Junction. That idea sounded so amazing. I don't really know much about it. The only things I know about it are what Jim Korkis has said on podcasts before, but based on what he said it would have been phenomenal.

- If they build a DVC that uses the old River Country for its pool area, I will finally buy into DVC.
- Please don't let it have even a remote resemblance to Disney's Hotel Cheyenne in Paris.
- Railroads are cool by default. I'm going to ride it just for fun.

By all accounts RC will be flattened. Finally.

Whilst its unclear how much of original Buffalo Junction may be recycled, in 1990 it was a 600 room hotel themed as a wild west town. Also worthy of note is the name change to Fort Wilderness Junction in 1991.

Do they have an available train that could be used? It seems like that would be a HUGE investment to get a working train and tracks installed and the whole.

Unless Avatar is going in the Rafiki Planet Watch area and that train would then be used for this area of Fort Wilderness?

Heres a link that pertains to this story we're discussing here: http://progresscityusa.com/2009/06/04/the-coolest-thing-youll-see-today/

And a video of the Hotel Cheyenne which would seemingly be similar to this proposed DVC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjD3VhgLJcg

I would just hope that its not all DVC as I would like to stay at a place like this for sure!!

Maybe the RR could be a WEDWay...??

It's worth pointing out too that DVC has been proposed for at least 2 other areas in FW too and nothing came of them.

The WEDWay was a joke. Before I start a rumour.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I freakin' hate the DVC.

I know it is sad to see River Country rotting away, but I am also fascinated by it. During my most recent trip, I was able to walk back into the open entrance area of the former River Country and peek over the wall at the historical water park. Abandoned places always capture my interest and visiting River Country was one the highlights of my most recent vacation to Walt Disney World.

Needless to say, if a DVC resort replaces poor River Country, I'm going to be very indignant.

Now this is a DVC I could get behind. Build a new DVC resort where it doesn't hurt anything (eg, the wedding pavilion, the beach of the Grand Floridian, or sightlines around the Contemporary), finally address the long-shuttered River Country, and for good measure, even restore a long-lost transportation feature to Fort Wilderness. Sounds like a smart move - I wish Disney had done this before DVC-ing the Grand Floridian.

Coming from you, Martin, I would believe that this project has real legs to stand on. I personally would be excited to see something along these lines happen. I really enjoy the ambiance of FW, but don't ever see myself staying there since it is mainly camping. A rustic DVC resort with all the normal amenities would be very appealing to me. I would just hope they would figure out something to make transportation a bit easier if this was to happen.

My only fear is another garish monster tower of a building on the shores of Bay Lake like the contemporary dvc. Hopefully they would do a smaller scale design here with clusters of smaller buildings or something?

It won't be long until we start hearing rumored reports of truck loads of railroad ties going past Wilderness Lodge on the back entrance road to Fort Wilderness.:D

I just don't get why Disney is so interested in giving away all it's deluxe hotel guests to DVC. Maybe they think it's better to focus on their discretionary spending and locking them into frequent returns.. rather than invest capital in building deluxe resorts with high overhead.
