The days of Light Magic where the Guest is in control have long since passed. Disney knows that no matter what they do, it will prove popular. Thus, Chapek's Disneyland. It all boils down to the arrogance of thinking that they, no matter what, cannot lose.

There is very big difference between upsetting a guest because they don't like an attraction or show (which is not most guests, but mostly limited to fanboys/girls and forum dwellers) and literally turning away business because a guest wants to bring in a stroller.

Serious question, is there any rule preventing people without kids from bringing a stroller in to push around the stuff they need for the parks and the merch they buy? I wouldn't do that but I could see someone trying it.
I don't believe so. I'm guessing you could even rent a stroller at DL to do the same thing if you wanted to.

Really? Maybe encountering two or three small to medium strollers at any given time is manageable, but on busy days, which is basically all the time, this is what Disneyland can look like when thousands of parents descend on the park with their mobile living rooms. I don't disagree that their size can be an issue, but the incredible number of them in the parks today is far more bothersome issue to me, and it's one of the reasons why I prefer the overall experience at DCA to Disneyland.

Pretty soon they need to build an in park parking structure for strollers LOL

I still think you could set a reasonable maximum width and not offend the majority of those with strollers. I mean you'd have to allow something at least as wide as a wheelchair or scooter to be fair anyway. I admit controlling the sheer number of them entering the parks would be nearly impossible.

The stroller question is one I am sure Disney has been asking for a long time, and there really isn't an easy solution. Its unrealistic to expect Disney to ban all strollers because parents really do need them sometimes, and there really isn't anywhere to park them while they are on rides. Maybe keep the strollers down to just small umbrella style strollers and have ones cheap to rent. That will help a bit, I think.

this is exactly what they should do and if you come with your own stroller have them swap it out for the day with a Disney issued stroller that is more compact. I'm sure Disney can design something that is more compact and has enough space for all the stuff people bring.

And in reality you have a lot of ed off guests that will tell you your stroller doesn't accommodate them. If their stroller gets dinged or goes missing its Disney's fault. Also where would Disney store all of those strollers? Stupid idea.

I don't think it's stupid. If Disney stuck to their guns and said, "This is our park. These are the rules. No likey? No one's forcing you to come. There's the door." There are millions of customers waiting to take up the slack and experience the improved park.

Of course, that'll never happen, but I can dream.

Ah, I miss the days when Disney actually enforced a dress code...

well eventually people will get the idea and stop taking those larger strollers. we make it sound like a change is not possible and it would not happen but lets just look at other industries that have made greater changes because of security and liabilities.

Airlines being the most obvious have made huge changes and even though people complained and moaned as much as they could the changes were made. People began to adapt to smaller check in suitcases smaller carry ons and now some airlines are even not allowing carryon larger than a purse.

made reason for these changes security being one, second reason safety and liabilities.

The increase need for bigger and bigger strollers and to some degreee ECV vehicles have started and will continue to create safety concerns and liability concerns. There are more and more reports of people complaining of being hit by strollers and the majority of times it is Disney that gets the complain and not the person pushing the strollers.

Disney at the moment is doing what it can to remove planters and expand walkways and even try and control crowds on certain days but how much can they do until the issue becomes controlling the next big issue which seems to be the increase of larger strollers which also contains bags that are being left unattended throughout the park

A typical wheelchair is 27-inches wide. I would think the vast majority of single wide strollers are less than that so that would be a reasonable standard that would not likely impact nearly as many.

To be fair, as someone who takes a small backpack into the parks (I do it for my wife), I would understand if they wanted to restrict those as well. They are equally problematic in some respects.

You would think people would figure it out by how much of a pain it is to get a SUV sized stroller on the tram. When I took a stroller I took the smallest and cheapest one I could find so it would fit on the tram easily. Most of the time I ended up leaving it somewhere in the park all day. It was even stolen once. Eventually I just used a backpack and the kiddo walked. It was easier on both of us. Most tourists/APs are kind of dense on the subject.

They should ban jogging strollers

That would help. A lot
IF you ban jogging strollers they will all move to ECV instead. Now all the adults are being wheeled along like a scene out of Wall*E.

In the old days Hefner would be in a wheel chair and his wife pushing him around. Now they both get to ride along with their "guests".

I don't think Hefner can get away with this anymore. He would definitely need someone to push him in a wheel chair.

Maybe Disney needs to look into instituting an adult swim (no, not the TV block) concept like at the local swimming club. I am, of course, kidding......sort of.

And as bad as DL can get, it's nowhere near the crushing waves of strollers I encountered at WDW back in February. Like that was scary bad, to the point where you almost feel trapped and bombarded at times!!

Ooops. Sounds like you weren't smart enough here to avoid those days, ha! ;)
