Dreams Come Alive and MSEP rebuild

I would imagine the decision involved the following conversation:

WDW Prez: "We are willing to spend X amount of money on new parades at WDW."
WDI or Disney Creative: "That will pay for 3 lackluster parades. Let's get to work."
WDW Prez: "Hold your horses--what if we combined the budget of 3 lackluster parades into one parade. Then what?"
WDI or Disney Creative: "Then we could build something spectacular."
WDW Prez: "Then do that and we will just hire some hourly entertainment at DAK and DHS to keep everyone entertained.

If getting ride of parades at DHS/DAK produces a parade that I will actually watch and enjoy and allows for more streetmosphere to return to DHS in particular, I am very much in favor.

I get the impression that George is willing to go to bat for WDW, but only to a point. He'll let budgets be what they are but will do his best to ensure the money is spent as effectively as possible, providing the best guest experience.

I tend to agree here. I'm not a huge fan of the parades but I'd much rather have one really good parade at the Magic Kingdom and some more streetmosphere than a decent parade at MK and Countdown to Fun at DHS.

I'm sure I wasn't their target demographic but I've found that I enjoy Hollywood Studios in the afternoon much more without Countdown to Fun and Disney Channel Rocks. No loud obnoxious music, nothing causing congestion on the walkways. It's nicer. If WDW's going to be using the money saved by cutting those and put it towards something good, well that's better than using it to pad the bottom line.

I'm really excited to hear about a new fireworks show at Magic Kingdom...

But I have to agree with the others who have voiced their disappointment with the possibility of the Christmas garland going away.

It's a small detail that makes a major impact!

It reminds me of the poor Castle Hub trees that Disney removed... I still look down Magic Kingdom's Main Street thinking something's off and something's missing...

I really hope one day Disney wises up and plants the trees back!

My understanding (and experience) is that they've been cut back.
A few years back I think there were some cuts, but they still have a large number of citizens there every day. They do five sets at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 2 and 3:30. Also though they just had contract renewals in April and there was no change in their schedules or anything of the like. So any effects of more streetmosphere added wouldn't take place until atleast another year from now. But probably by then, the money saved from the parade will have gone towards someone's bonus.

Greetings from my 0.46% vacation to Afghanistan! If I recall reading correctly, MSEP was shipped back to Florida when DCA was going through its extensive makeover. The streets weren't wide enough to accommodate the units so it couldn't run. If we are to get a Star Wars land, that would certainly disrupt the parade route and would be a great thing! As for DAK, that parade was always meh to me anyway. I like the idea of hiring more musical groups for street performances.....BRING BACK THE VILLAGE BEATNICKS AND THE TROPICALS!!!!!

DHS COULD have an awesome themed parade if done right... think about the Hollywood and Movies they could represent with large floats, props, and characters

just to name a few
Pirates
Tron
Muppets
Marvel
Star Wars
Pixar anything
John Carter (just kidding ;))

or they could even do a lower budget Disney Jr. type parade with many of the characters kids love today
Ooooh... I like....so many cool options especially for Pirates and Star Wars!

I was doing some research on Steve Davison and it turns out that he was asked by the head of Disneyland entertainment at the time to create a fireworks show for the 45th Anniversary of Disneyland (in 1999; which he had no experience with pyrotechnics) called "Believe...There's Magic in the Stars." Being that 2016 would be the MK's 45th anniversary, wouldn't surprise me if he'll be asked to come up with a new fireworks show for the MK.

Wait, so MSEP is going down for Just maintenance? or a rebuild/upgrade? We heard that DL was getting a new light parade... have plans changed and now its going to be for WDW?

And can we assume this new nighttime show will be like Disney Dreams with fountains?

The rumor is that MSEP is being "rebuilt" once FOF comes online next year. We don't know if it's true and what it means - it could mean just a refurb to keep it going another 40 years (yay us) or if WDW is smart, it could mean Dreamlights. There's been no confirmation yet on this one.

DL is still getting a new light parade; that's unrelated.

Yes, that, and as a part of WDW's Summer Nightastic promotion to change things up a bit to try and lure guests to the parks at the height of the recession (along with the summer-only fireworks show as well).

P.S. - You get no more "Roll Tide's" from me ;) , but did you see the renovation plans for Kyle Field at A&M? Wow.

i hope they can do something about the garland height rather than remove them as it would be nice to see the MSEP clocktower float come down Maiun street during the holidays without it's missing top.

WOW! what amazing rumors! there are many ways that the firework show could go! With Steve on the team it makes possibilities limitless!! I would imagine something along the lines of Disney Dreams. But involving known characters in American culture.
As for the rebuild, updating everything and possibly incorporating some of the Spectro floats, will make this rebuild worth while. With them updating the sound system along the parade route, the re imagined music would be amazing! I would think they would incorporate newer movies, like DreamLights at TDL, to present it to the new generations that are in the parks.
I would hope that while MK is bring new entertainment, they upgrade the lowest attended park (AK/DHS). I would just hope it takes 4 years to do so. USF built a new attraction in less than a year, if USF can do it so can Disney.
These are just my thoughts...

my guess is they will keep the MSEP music... and redo/redesign and maybe even build some new floats and additions to the MSEP perhaps. just a guess tho
This is my guess. It will probably be the same parade with all of the floats that are still their now, but I don't think we'll see a DreamLights style re-build. We might get more floats maybe, and they could possibly incorporate some of the ones salvaged from Spectro. Who knows. I love MSEP so much it just makes me happy that it sounds like they are going to start taking better care of it.

New MK pyro show being developed is accurate. I don't recall Martin ever saying anything that contradicts, so I'm not sure why this person felt the need to take a shot at him. Wishes is still running, and any new show is still a few years out. MSEP work is also accurate as of very recently, but don't know when it's scheduled to take place.
Martin said Wishes was safe as a CONCEPT. People took that to mean Wishes was staying period. "Nighttime fireworks" is the concept and that concept is indeed safe.

To reiterate, Wishes is around for the near future. A new show is planned. Though Not yet. And I'd be surprised if it didn't include use of the projection system and other additional tech.

A Dreams type show was proposed a few years back for the MK and the hub. This would have meant reduced high level pyro for reasons I won't go into. Whilst this limit is still a possibility, hopefully TDO and Holmes towers realise what that would mean. It's not as if they haven't been told.

The MSEP / DEP rebuild will focus on the physical float frames and drives. They aren't exactly in tip top condition. Any additions would be welcome of course, but don't hold your breath. If anything were to happen I'd look for plussing as opposed to radical changes both in audio and visuals. But I have been wrong before.

Yeah, I just don't like this sniping amongst various people/sites. Very negative and there's no reason for it. Martin didn't say anything inaccurate, so why did this other person feel the need to gloat? Add to that, Martin's nice on the boards - he doesn't have a go at others, so...just one of those things that got my blood pressure up a bit.

People keep saying they never stop to watch the lackluster parades at DHS or DAK, so shouldn't that mean that we should want TDO to replace them with something better, not just close them??? Call me bitter but DHS had a great parade, BPB, that was butchered because of cost cutting. Then they act surprised that it had low guest satisfaction scores and finally use that as an excuse to close it. Even the Disney Stars and Motorcars Parade was a great parade to have at that park.

It's not unreasonable to think that DHS will soon be getting the full Pixar Play Parade from DCA.

That parade is now five years old (with a 18 month hiatus during 2011-12 for park construction), five years is a lifetime for parades in Anaheim and it won't be at DCA much longer. Pixar Play Parade would work well at DHS, so long as TDO doesn't butcher it like they did to BPB and then that horrible Pixar Pals Parade thing that they finally put out of its misery.
