Dreams Come Alive and MSEP rebuild

At first I was shocked that Disney was getting rid of the parades at AK and HS, both of those parks are somewhat lacking and I tend to categorize them as "half day parks". That being said I also don't bother to stop and watch the parades at either of those parks, but I think its important to have them. Now that all these rumors are popping up about a new fireworks show at MK and also a refurb of MSEP, I can somewhat understand why these cuts are happening. I think that if TDO does have plans for Avatar and Carland, then cutting the lack luster parades to help pay for those is well worth it IMO. I'm hopeful that Disney is finally turning things around and realized that they need to keep improving and adding to the parks or else people will start taking trips down the road to see a park where new things are being built yearly. I also hope that they keep the garland on MSUSA at xmas because it is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

I was thinking last night about the garland and how much I like it... they do remove it for the christmas day parade filming and I can live with it ok then. One downside to it is standing on mainstreet and having it block some view of the castle (neat to have in photos, but can take away from view some as well... kinda a pro/con i guess)

One way they could do it instead of stinging it all the way across the street would be come up out of the building straight or in an angle (up in the air) about 6-10 feet out or so and leaving the middle open for the large floats??? I don't know

Wow, so many strong opinions on a non-sourced rumor.

Could we at least get the source. Jim Hill? Miceage? The site that can't be named? Bus driver at Universal?

Check post #15

Thank you! Yes I do find that site to be gaining in credibility and impact. Won't miss spectro as I think MSEP is a timeless classic. Hopefully it remains at WDW for a long time.

Never felt a traditional parade was right for DAK. Seems those funds could be better allocated to streetmosphere type adds that offer unexpected surprises.

Changes are definitely afoot. Optimistic.

Because MSEP is probably the most well known parade Disney's ever produced and is more marketable then Spectromagic.

I'm not sure the general public always completely differentiates the Main Street Electrical Parade from Spectromagic. The title MSEP is probably more marketable, but to the casual WDW guest, some just understand the Magic Kingdom offers an evening light (electrical) parade. SpectroMagic, Fantillusion, or Dreamlights could all be brought in and marketed in the same role.

Anyone here knows we are really seeing the Disneyland MSEP, but such distinctions are not important to the average guest, whichever parade may be their personal favorite.

I've always thought DAK should have more african drumming groups, or maybe an african dance celebration kinda atmosphere to get kids and adults dancing in the streets

I love illuminations... HOWEVER I think the little water features aren't up to caliber and I may even go so far as saying the globe in the middle section is a little eh, cool but no wow factors

I will keep saying it, illuminations has a problem with scale that becomes more apparent with time. They need to add larger scale elements and send the globe to the lake at Disney Springs where it would work perfectly. And it could be revenue generating by playing advertisements sometimes.

IMO.

People keep saying they never stop to watch the lackluster parades at DHS or DAK, so shouldn't that mean that we should want TDO to replace them with something better, not just close them??? Call me bitter but DHS had a great parade, BPB, that was butchered because of cost cutting. Then they act surprised that it had low guest satisfaction scores and finally use that as an excuse to close it. Even the Disney Stars and Motorcars Parade was a great parade to have at that park.

I would imagine the decision involved the following conversation:

WDW Prez: "We are willing to spend X amount of money on new parades at WDW."
WDI or Disney Creative: "That will pay for 3 lackluster parades. Let's get to work."
WDW Prez: "Hold your horses--what if we combined the budget of 3 lackluster parades into one parade. Then what?"
WDI or Disney Creative: "Then we could build something spectacular."
WDW Prez: "Then do that and we will just hire some hourly entertainment at DAK and DHS to keep everyone entertained.

If getting ride of parades at DHS/DAK produces a parade that I will actually watch and enjoy and allows for more streetmosphere to return to DHS in particular, I am very much in favor.

I get the impression that George is willing to go to bat for WDW, but only to a point. He'll let budgets be what they are but will do his best to ensure the money is spent as effectively as possible, providing the best guest experience.

DHS COULD have an awesome themed parade if done right... think about the Hollywood and Movies they could represent with large floats, props, and characters

just to name a few
Pirates
Tron
Muppets
Marvel
Star Wars
Pixar anything
John Carter (just kidding ;))

or they could even do a lower budget Disney Jr. type parade with many of the characters kids love today

Or they could hire more Streetmosphere and give us an improved nighttime show.

Streetmosphere, or the Citizens of Hollywood as they're officially called, never left DHS. They've been there doing there thing the whole time.
