Meanwhile, in China, there's little interest for this film, judged by its 3-day pre-ticket sales which is the worst performing Disney film in the country this year due to COVID impact.

So when the audience scores come in for this are we still going to blame review bombing?

Just wondering since the reviewers also say it sucks.
This is becoming a sad obsession at this point

I don’t believe the critic reviews at all when it comes to Disney movies.

I have posted audience reviews and been shouted down on this forum that they don’t count.

So I guess if everyone gets to cherry pick what counts or not I should join in on the fun.
I don’t cherry pick…Critics are just people with opinions who are great at putting their analysis into words…I personally use Rotten Tomatoes as I can disagree with any one critic, but there is a much less chance with a consensus….critics being Disney shills is a laughably bad take

It is not a “lazy copy paste” if one of them is less than 90 minutes and another is over two hours. You seem particularly triggered tonight. Why?
I seem triggered ?

I know your a talented writer, I hope you try your hand at comedy.

I don’t want to insult each other back and forth, since your one of my favorite posters here,
so let me just say this.

I posted that the reviews are not good.

I understand it’s at 70% but if you compare that to anything else Disney has made that’s a very poor score.

Yes the score may go up or down we don’t know.

Can it still be a good movie ?

Sure it can, but it is trending to be one of the worst critically reviewed Disney films.

I think we would both be shocked if it has positive audience scores.

I hope you enjoy the movie and it brings a smile to your face.

When I see critic scores like this I have no other explanation.

Sorry don’t trust them.

So basically the worst Disney movie since 2017.

And one of the worse of all time.

Enjoy!!

Sure the reviewers are mostly Disney shills.

However I have been informed that audience score doesn’t count, so what am I suppose to do?

🤷‍♂️

You point out that there are poor reviews and yet hold on to the conspiracy that reviewers always give Disney good reviews.

You need to get your Troll talking points straight.

Disney will shortly pass Uni as the highest grossing studio for 2023. It’s doing fine.
We gotta be careful about the "highest grossing" title.

My hope is they make more from each movie than it costs to make and market.

Having said that, Disney can for sure afford to lose money on a movie here and there while at the same time holding the "highest grossing" title.

You hope I try my hand at comedy? All my plays are comedies and I think you probably knew that before posting that you don’t want us to “insult each other”. Anyway, back to the mermaid.

I felt like I needed to join in on the tinfoil hat party!

Actually I didn’t.

Sorry I didn’t mean that as an insult AT ALL.

I mean what I say. I hope you enjoy it.

The question is what is the issue here, it's clearly one of the best live-action theatrical films from WDS in the last decade+. By RT scores of course - I omitted ESPN Films and Dreamworks film released by Disney alongside animated fare, MCU and Star Wars. Little Mermaid, bolded at 70 for reference is in the top 15 films per RT scores out of their last 40 films from the studio. If we opened it up to pre 2010 live-action films I doubt it much will change in new offering's ranking.

See, this score is because the Last Jedi is a really good movie, the best Star Wars film Disney has released, and made strong, interesting creative decisions. It’s not as good as Andor, of course, but what is?

You can read each review that makes up that aggregate and decide whether or not you agree with the reasoning behind the score. Sometimes you’ll disagree - I think American Hustle is MASSIVELY overrated, for instance - but you can always find the reasoning.

As others have pointed out you aren't actually looking at the live action segment. It's fairly mid tier with Lion King and Aladdin both being in the 50's more recently. On par with Beauty and the Beast, though I think the critical reception benefited from being the first in the lineup. The scrutiny has become stronger critically.

I'm also confused by your thesis that the audience score is going to be poor? I almost guarantee you it won't be. Lion King (88) and Aladdin (94). There is a large disconnect between general audiences and critics on these types of movies. Much as the Fast and Furious series. People are tuning in to see a live action little mermaid. Critics generally want sometimes more inventive.

A 70 or 7 implies the movie critical consensus is good. Not great, not excellent. Not meh, bad or terrible. Good.

Splitting hairs over whether TLM's score is good or bad is pointless. The culture and climate surrounding the remakes have been very negative and there is a lot of resentment (even among critics) over them. Considering that two financially successful remakes were rotten with scores in the low 50's but still made a LOT of money means that a 70% for TLM isn't too shabby.

I think all of those critics owed Rian Johnson money. They probably loved Glass Onion too.

I think most of the live-action remakes aren't very good, have glaring flaws which I don't understand how they were allowed to happen but have any of them truly sucked?

Yeah most of them fall into the category of “pointless” more than “bad”. They’ve generally been entertaining at least and you get what you expect.

I will again put my two cents in for The Jungle Book which is the only true remake (as opposed to reimagining like Maleficent or Cruella) that really improves on the original film and felt like it had a purpose in being made.
