Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

The Lion King I think was the most “unoriginal” of the remakes so far in my opinion. I haven’t seen Aladdin so I can’t speak to that one
I didn't see The Lion King. I saw Aladdin though. It was Guy Ritchie delivering the product. Everything was just kind of lazily done, going through the motions. Wasn't good, but it wasn't awful.

I wasn't a big fan of BATB as in before the live action I saw it once or twice over the years but when the live action version came out I fell in love with the LA and now have a greater appreciation for the original. It's the one LA I like better.
All that said if only Angela Lansbury could have done the remake I would have liked it better

We got glimpse of how The Little Mermaid live-action would like, from countries where the film have released two days prior to US release.
1. Ariel's transformation

2. Ariel's voice return

However, we not yet seen the Disney100 logo appeared at the film.

I can't speak for the entire movie, but these look great! We will not be going to the theater to see this, nothing to do with the movie as we have not been to the theater since 2019, but we are looking forward to seeing this movie on streaming.

And there it is! Streaming will take the box office numbers down. The established standards/measures for movie failure or success need to be rethought.

Well, I think it is a given that they need to have a much longer gap between theatrical release and then when a movie appears on streaming. Something closer to 6 months or longer especially for family friendly films where it is too easy to say "I'll wait to watch on Disney+"

"Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” is poised to make a box office splash over Memorial Day weekend. The big-budget remake is projected to earn a mighty $100 million from 4,300 North American theaters in its first three days of release and $120 million to $125 million by Monday’s holiday."

-----

"By comparison, 2019’s “The Lion King” enjoyed a mammoth $191 million debut, 2019’s “Dumbo” opened to a tepid $45 million and 2019’s “Aladdin” collected $91 million to start. (Apparently, 2019 was a huge year for Disney remakes.) Meanwhile, the first of the studio’s live-action reimaginings in 2017’s “Beaty and the Beast” and 2016’s “Jungle Book,” launched with $174 million and $103 million, respectively.

“The Little Mermaid” had a budget close to $250 million, which grew because of unexpected COVID-related production delays and health and safety costs, so it will need to resonate across the globe to turn a profit. The movie lands day-and-date in nearly every key international market, where it’s expected to generate $80 million over the weekend."

May be closer to $120 million Friday-Sunday and $140-$150 million for the entire holiday weekend.

I preferred the Color Purple musical to the original Spielberg movie. That was the movie that launched the careers of Oprah Winfrey and Woopie Goldberg for good or bad I guess. Musicals typically don't do well at the box office. See the recent Westside Story and Cats. La La Land did well though.

If i was not mistaken, The Little Mermaid is not just the ordinary live-action remake, it is the one of signature films of Disney 100th anniversary. Some maybe for us, this is the one of most anticipated Disney film this year, along with Arianna DeBose Wish.

EDIT: We got some of opening credit cast for the film. Never seen that a film had a opening credits mentioning cast since 2019's Aladdin. We expect more regarding the full opening credits of the film.

Box Office Pro projects $117.8 million for the 3-day weekend and $149 million for the 4-day weekend.o_O

The young girls and the not so young girls (me 😂) are starved for a Princess movie!

Been a while, even if it is a remake.

Since I have a narrative ( and you don’t ) I’ll let someone else explain it.

The article bears out the point I was making: for better or worse, the film’s 71% score is good by the standard of the remakes. Perhaps you didn’t read or understand it properly, because it doesn’t support what you were trying to say earlier.

And no, I don’t have a narrative. I have a hope that I’ll enjoy it and a commitment to being honest about whether I do or not.

It's also pretty good compared to all widely released movies.

Much better than most films put out by Disney Studios.

It does pale in comparison to the average Pixar, DAS, or Marvel scores.
