Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

The animated movie was always about more than leaving the ocean for a boy. But the shortcuts made in plot made it easy for people to dismiss it as that. The additions to the live action make it harder for people to write off in that manner.
Again if I don’t phrase things properly don’t think I’m taking you out of context.

I find the additions and accompanying explanations of motivations to leave the ocean beyond the boy, make the plot convoluted and longer than necessary.

I don’t see a problem with her just leaving the ocean for a boy.

Maybe you do and that’s certainly fair.

You know what's funny?

I mean, she did sing a whole song about why she wanted to be on land...

You’re misunderstanding me. I don’t have a problem with it. But that was also never the message of the original either. She sang about wanting to be on land and why before she ever met Eric.

…such as?

And before we shake that tree…please…pretty please pick something that isn’t 75 years old and from a completely different consumer/economic reality?

Like sleeping beauty might as well been shown on mars compared to today
I stand by my point and am confident that the live-action Little Mermaid will not be without impact. You’re free to believe otherwise; I have no interest in trying to convince you of my opinion.

I forgot to ask this in the spoiler thread. How old do we think Ariel is in this one? It’s revealed that Eric is 21, so that got my friends and I trying to guess her age. We assume she’s supposed to be 17 or 18, since Ursula points out that Ariel doesn’t remember her and she’s been banished for 15 years. That means Ariel was at least maybe 2 or 3-years-old (maybe even more), plus 15…

Anyways, anyone find it weird that Ariel was in the same dress basically for the entire movie? Lol I was hoping they’d give her a different dress, but we didn’t see that until the very end.
Agreed. If I remember correctly, she was wearing the same dress even after Triton gave her legs, in stark contrast to the sparkling number she’s shown with at the same moment in the animated film.

Correct. It’s the exact same dress during her entire time on land, except the very end. She’s there for three days…why is she in the exact same dress, even when she returns to Eric? I missed the sparkly dress and I was even curious to see what they would do with the wedding dress, but we didn’t that either. That was disappointing.
