Disney's Live Action The Little Mermaid

Oh they'll dip into that well for sure. I'd say if Moana is a success, Frozen won't be too far behind. Heck, even if the next couple fail hard, I'd put money on a Frozen remake. It would have a great shot at matching or surpassing Lion kings box office. And we know how Disney loves them dollar signs.
TWDC does indeed love them dollar signs. They must figure out how to make them instead of losing them.

You know what's funny?
Yeah I know. Obviously it doesn’t stop me from loving her :) but I understand the comment about that particular line being annoying. Live action handled it much better, imo…same scene, slightly different lines - made a big difference IMO (and is no less a fairytale)
I just find it amusing that this is fairytale about a mermaid who gets a sea witch to change her into a human...but her falling in love at first sight is a bridge too far.

Because she hadn’t even met him when she proclaimed her love for him in that moment.

Have you seen the animated version?
How long did Prince Eric know her before he decided to risk his life to save her?

Why does everything have to be some sort of social commentary. It’s a freaking fairytale.

To find it problematic you would have to assume that people are to stupid to tell the difference between a Disney movie and real life.

People can like or dislike moments of a movie without that being social commentary.

They can love a movie overall, and still have small moments that they dislike within it (and again without that dislike meaning social commentary).

No! Hahaha. I know, I know, but I find her annoying. Something I realized last night, even in the live-action, Ariel calls Triton “father,” whereas in the animated, she calls him “daddy.” Very childlike.
I think the way she’s portrayed in the original is very appropriate given that she’s meant to be on the cusp of womanhood. She comes across as very smart and independently minded yet in some ways naive and childlike, as befits a 16-year-old. I’ve always found her very likeable and relatable.

You are incorrect about TLM not making a cultural impact

Let’s see how it plays?

The idea around here that it doesn’t matter people aren’t watching it is a real doozy.

But I see the same 6 claiming that started some bizarre “Oscar” thread?

That’s true! Can you tell I don’t like teenagers? Lol.
Yeah, I didn’t take you to be saying you found it problematic. But some people are intent on trying to derail what should in any case be a good-natured discussion. I’ve decided it’s best just to ignore them.
Right? It came from left field. I was honestly so thoroughly confused when I read it that all I could respond with was “huh?”

Maybe I didn’t phrase it properly who knows.

I just feel like the it included unnecessary social commentary that makes the story more convoluted.

Maybe social commentary isn’t the right term?

"I’m really excited for my version of the film because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy." Explaining it further, Halle said: "It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants."

Halle ended her comments by saying: "As women we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and above. And I’m glad that Disney is updating some of those themes."

That’s what the actress says about it.

I’m not trying to confuse you it just reads like social commentary to me ?

Okay, but my comment was my own. I wasn’t talking about Halle and her comments.

All I basically said was live-action Ariel is less annoying than animated Ariel. Your response took it somewhere else.

Ben-Hur (1959), All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), The Departed were all remakes. The Sound of Music and Les Miserables were adapted before the US versions which won Oscars as well.

But Disney remakes haven’t won Oscars, that’s correct.
