Last I remember it was going to become Hollywood Adventure, but Spirit said that the potential name was axed because they wanted something "sexier/edgier".

So highly paid corporate executives are unable to come up with a name until most of the additions are completed. Talk about a complete lack of [you fill in].....

And yet Walt managed to come up with a park name, before it was built and all the land purchased.....

Sigh

They could have already decided on one but have chosen to wait to release the information. But, even if they havent, I don't see how it could possibly matter.

It's not a matter of not being able to come up with a new name, but instead related to when to pull the trigger on the name change. Do it too early and the brand identity is forever tied to the mediocrity that is at the park today. Do it a little later and it's tied to Star Wars Land and other enhancements.

It's reinventing the park.

However, those considerations didn't stop Disney changing the Park's icon several times and tearing down the physical structures representing the first two icons.

The new name is not even close to being relevant until the park is very close to redone. My bet is that they already know what the name will be and have for a very long time. The new organization will, or should reflect the new park, but, there is no need to even think about it until then.

The only official icon that was torn down was the water tower. The damn hat never was an official icon except in the minds of some of the guests. The theater wasn't an icon and even the ToT wasn't an official icon. They were used in identifying pictures but until recently the entire park after it's movie studio life was over, might just as well been a giant bowl of Potpourri.

I don't think it's that they can't come up with a name until most of the additions are done but that they don't want to roll out the new name until then. I would assume the park's new name will also include a new overall theme and backstory for the park with fresh marketing materials, park maps and maybe even a new icon. I would assume all of that will have a focus on SW Land and to a lesser extent Toy Story. I'm not sure what value would be added by announcing the new name now. It would probably just confuse people.
