Disney to make an expansion announcement today.

Considering Disney didn't make an announcement can you all now stop acting like the 'announcement' didn't live up to your expectations?

Instead let's go back and see how you were mislead from the start and you jumped in blindly
Ugh, yes they did. They called the press in. And made a joke of themselves. Sure it's usually call the press-->announce-->come out impressive, but this was still an announcement, regardless of the poor reaction to it.

So do you consider it an announcement when Disney hosts the mommy bloggers too?

It was bad info people ran with

So now we are defining what a Disney press event is... So, calling in the actual news media and announcing to them MORE SEATS and doing interviews to pat yourself on the back isn't an actual announcement or press event... But calling in the mommy bloggers, wanna be reporters, and other kissers like Lou IS a press event... Got it...

But they DID make an announcement. It was a lame one. The idea of them notifying news people about it and doing it as a public thing IS kind of funny...but they did, in fact, alert the news people and have a public set-up to announce some new benches and the change in night stuff at MK.

Any way you choose to spin this, the fact is they're once again wasting time "announcing" things that should be considered day-to-day operations instead of waking up and smelling the Butterbeer. While we're at it, no need for such a condescending tone.

Lets go back to the first post in the thread... Strike that, just read the thread title. There was no expansion announcement. People overhyped things because if what they want to happen... And then crap on the company for not living up to the hype that the company wasn't even responsible for.

Someone even had the gaul to call this event 'overhyped'. Really? And exactly where was this hyped, or even announced externally prior? All the hype and expectations existed here and no where else.

Was the 'news' they shared pathetic? Yes, but the behavior here that should be the poster child for foamer references. Bad info, blown out of proportion, and then foaming at the mouth for failing to match expectations whipped up here in fantasyland.

Or you could say, "Why did Disney feel compelled to make anything out of this announcement?" Surely the foamers wouldn't be freaking out like they are if Disney hadn't invited the media for an announcement.

Who cares about the title of the thread?

Bottom line: Disney arranged a media gathering to announce new bleachers and a show that had already been announced.

*And they also took the opportunity to gloat about how wonderful Fantasmic is.

Oh, you used the word "foamer". You must be really important and mature.

"Foamer" and "Fanboy" should be blocked words on the internet.

From the dictionary:
an·nounce·ment

[uh-nouns-muhnt] Show IPA
noun
1. public or formal notice announcing something: The announcement appeared in the newspapers.
2. the act of announcing.
3. a short message or commercial, especially a commercial spoken on radio or television.
4. a card or piece of formal stationery containing a formal declaration of an event, as a wedding.

It doesn't matter HOW it was done. The fact is it was formal statement from the company. It was therefore an announcement.

We can argue semantics about whether or not it was an EXPANSION, however. Adding bleachers that does not increase capacity does not make it an expansion, other than an expansion in seating (assuming that the readers are aware that it accommodates people who otherwise would have been standing.
Someone even had the gaul to call this event 'overhyped'. Really? And exactly where was this hyped, or even announced externally prior? All the hype and expectations existed here and no where else.
I'll agree with you here. It seems the only hype is in this thread.

The real issue was stated in an earlier post. Why did this even warrent an announcement? Of any kind. There are people on this board who would point to this announcement and argue that Disney isn't sitiing back and watching Universal surpass them. This is the equivalent of adding extra stalls to the ladies' room. It's not worthy of mentioning. But we all know why Disney announced it, simply to make it look like they are doing something.

If they just put it on the parks blog it wouldn't have been so silly and they wouldn't have looked foolish... But to call the media for this??? Yes, they look stupid...

On the news, they said there would be changes for Fantasmic, including new seating. The "including" part would lead one to believe that there was going to be more to it. I didn't necessarily make the jump to "expansion", but being a fan, I did wonder what the whole thing was. Obviously, there was nothing In which this was "included." That was it. New seating.

Personally, I think Disney should just have issued a press release and left it at that. No reason for a teaser, gathering the press and making an announcement.

But you make a point. Next time Disney is going to make an announcement, I will wait until after it is made to begin caring what it might be. :)

Have you ever heard of Pavlov's classical conditioning? Yes, with the dog and the ringing bell and the food... That's right. Can you really blame a "foamer" (for the record, I'd rather we call one another Disney fans but i digress) for thinking announcement + press = something worthwhile? As the dog was conditioned to think food would come at the sound of the bell, most fans here - at least those who have seen Disney's practices for a while - are conditioned that media + formal announcement = something of value. Obviously the joke's on us since it seems that for some reason, that equation holds true for every resort except the one we love most.

It looks like the only people upset are those that built this press meeting up themselves. There was no hype by Disney, just a few people here. And yes, they did make a couple of announcements, but I would hope most would figure out that was only the bait to get the press on site. They showed up and then went and wrote their stories... stories that will appear in many places, online, print and TV. And that advertising cost them minimal dollars to host. No ad buys, no TV spots, nothing. They basically got their advertising for F! and the new castle show for free. That's what this event was all about. The hyperventilating over some announcement was entirely driven by posters here that are now blaming Disney for making themselves look foolish and stupid.
