Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

Jedi and Mickey? Ughhh I don't think so!

Inadiana Jones and Mickey? Ughhh I don't think so.

Honestly you have NO idea what Walt would have done. You're not Walt. You'll never be Walt. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Twilight Zone, and Aerosmith didn't ruin the integrity of the parks. In fact, they helped to create some of the best attractions from WDI. Just as Marvel could help create some of the best rides anywhere. In fact, they've already made THE best ride anywhere in The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

So step back, and use some logic before you go crazy.
Yeah but Marvel is similar to DC, Six Flags has the rights to DC. Why would you want something similar to what Six Flags has. George Lucas's films and works are respectable. Anyway you dont see Indiana Jones walking around the parks, neither do you see Rod Serling walking around, or Steven Tyler walking around the parks as well. Plus why would you want something that Universal has? I thought that Disney was an original company. As long as they dont incorporate the Marvel characters into the parks then everything will be fine.

Because I personally think Universal or Disney could do something brilliant with it, unlike Six Flags' "here is a rollercoaster, lets name it after a superhero".

Normally I find your remarks hit or miss, but this one definitely made me laugh.

The cutouts reak of Six-Flags level theming. It's a bit above Six Flags, but not really. I would consider The Hulk an unthemed coaster before I'd consider it a lightly themed coaster. I also think the ride itself is overrated. It's inversion after inversion making it disorienting to the point where you can't enjoy the elements of the ride. To me, Kraken over at Sea World is a better ride.

Spiderman is far and away the best ride in the park, and some would argue the best ride on the planet. The exterior cutout of Spiderman is meant to look 3D, but it doesn't really work. Once you get inside the building though, it's fantastic.

Even if they could legally build it, I think Disney would have to be very wary about building a Spiderman ride as the current ride in Islands of Adventure would certainly be used as a basis of comparison. If Disney's Spiderman attraction fell short in any way it would be poorly received.

Nope, they did lose Oswald to Universal though...

I'm guessing that Universal will look to pull the plug after Harry Potter is successful, or not at all. If they don't pull the plug in JT's time frame, I'd expect we'd be looking at 15-20 years at the minimum. If it's the latter they may remove the "Marvel" name and re-name it "Superhero Island" and base an attraction around another "non-Marvel" Superhero.

I don't think that's the case at all for the reasons I mentioned above. If Disney builds a Spiderman ride it would have to be better than The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman - I would think that such an attraction would be a huge investment, and I don't see Disney making this investment for Spiderman. I think Spiderman stays in Islands of Adventure - and if it doesn't, he will only appear as a walkaround character in Hollywood Studios.
Spiderman is good but i wouldn't label it the best ride on the planet. To me TOT and HM are the greatest attractions in Orlando.

I almost entirely lurk, but I'll post in this instance, as I have something to offer.

Nikki Finke has covered the details of this on her blog. Finke is, simply, THE authority on Hollywood. Be aware though, the language can be, er, direct? So anyone sweet and innocent should stick to reading the extracts below.

Key points:

Universal's current attractions are safe, as are the themed eateries/shops. Any Marvel characters not used presently by Universal will most certainly not be used from here on. The walk-around characters that are not connected to an attraction or eatery could be in danger, as that clause is more easily manipulated. The use of the characters for walk-around is usually a separate contract than the rides/overall naming rights, and is usually much more flexible. So these could be the first to go in the years to come.

Privately, Universal execs told me they've got the Marvel characters "until the end of time if we want them" and used phrases like "in perpetuity". But here's the rub: a Universal insider tells me the theme parks only retain the existing characters it's already made use of. Sure there are Spider-Man and Hulk attractions, but what about the bulk of the 5,000 Marvel characters? Are those Disney's now?

...Universal theme parks have a long-term licensing deal with Marvel that gives Universal exclusive rights for Marvel characters east of the Mississippi for theme park use.

For specific characters/properties (i.e., ones where Universal has invested a huge amount of money, like the Spider-Man ride), the Universal/Marvel licenses are virtually in perpetuity and will outlast the rides themselves. My insiders predict that Disney will try to buy those characters out in the distant future -- probably when the rides are changed/closed or the entire Marvel Island is changed/closed.

1. Walt is dead.

2. You don't know what Walt would do so stop that nonsense.

3. Disney HAS superheroes, forget The Incredibles?

4. Marvel's superheroes are 1000X better than said Incredibles.

5. If 10.000,000 approve of this and 3 rabid fanboys on here don't, who do you thik Disney would care more about? YOU or the masses?? Clue: NOT YOU

Some of you really need to give it up. Face reality. Once the deal is final, Marvel's characters will be part of the Disney family, just like Pixar's. No wonder people think Disney is for kids. Most of you on here are whining like little babies, worried that your toys may be ruined. Seriously, get over it already.

I want Marvel in MY parks. There, I said it. MY PARKS!!!!!

First of all bud you better step back and watch out, you have no idea what u r talking about and u r being very rude about it. I dont wanna be rude about this but what u r saying makes no sense. Walt is dead but his legacy still lives on and may I remind you without Walt Mickey Mouse or the Disney theme parks would of never been created. If you are a true "Disney fan" then you would know some stuff about Walt. I know that they have superheros The Incredibles, Pixar's creations. Pixar and Disney are a team now, they are a respectable company. It's not weird junk like Marvel. And one more thing "Mike Eisner" these are not your parks. Do you own them? Did you build them? There not ur parks buddy so why dont u relax. Do you even know the history behind Walt Disney or the company?

Marvel is actually QUALITY work. Not wierd junk. If you've ever seen the movies, these heroes (and villains) are quite relatable. Their stories are amazing, and you don't like them because Walt wouldn't want them. Who are you to say that? GRRRRRRR.... Spiderman is not weird.

They aren't his parks or yours, they're actually going to be mine one day :lol:mwhahahaha NOW SILENCE :fork: no marvel in DAK or Epcot. TLand is fair game and DHS should be their home *now back to being a boring ole' poster*

Forgive me but I not going to read 68 forums pages to see if this was brought up. Marvel and Disney was working together way back in 1985, MARVEL produces a series of comics book based on Disney Beauty and Beast and Little Mermaid and Pochontas while it not a best seller it did last between 7 - 10 issues as part marvel STAR Comic Line for kids.

I think we all know and agree that Marvel Island isn't leaving just yet. But, to say Disney buying Marvel doesn't change things is just not right. It changes a lot.

Completely agree. The thing I am wondering is can Disney use characters like Daredevil, Iron Man, etc. that are not used at IoA. If they can, they can still make some pretty good attractions.

You should think before you post... You made a direct threat to goth... Nice way to get banned... Second, are the Disney parks YOUR parks??? Nope... So, what gives YOU the right to petition Disney, write to Disney, or demand no marvel characters in the parks??? Right, they are not YOUR parks!!!!!

And by the way, MARVEL IS NOW DISNEY!!! yes, Get over it...

Disney has already started a character training program for them.

Can't wait to start seeing some REAL SUPERHEROES in the park... Lose the Power Rangers and we are good to go!!!

By the way, maybe that can replace the American Idol sign with a Marvel Universe sign.... :)

Ummmm...what? So what that Six Flags has DC characters as their coaster names? Honestly...this argument makes no sense.

George Lucas's films and works are respectable.

As are Marvel's. Some of these characters have been around since WWII. Longer than the vast majority of Disney characters.

Anyway you dont see Indiana Jones walking around the parks, neither do you see Rod Serling walking around, or Steven Tyler walking around the parks as well.

No you don't see Indy walking around DHS, but I would sure love that. You already see Darth Vader there everyday, which is cool as well.

I can't wait for the day I can meet Iron Man and Captain America at DHS.

Plus why would you want something that Universal has?

Let's see. I want a lot that Universal has. The Spider-Man ride blows anything Disney has ever done out of the water theme park wise. Reveng of the Mummy is amazing. MIB is better than TSMM and Buzz Lightyear.

Shall I go on?

Very good article that has cleared up a lot of points.

Looks like we may have Iron Man.

Pixar and Disney are a team now, they are a respectable company.

And Disney/Marvel are also a team now.

It's not weird junk like Marvel.

"Weird junk"? Really? Okay, you have obviously never experienced ANY of Marvel's products. Maybe you should enlighten yourself before calling others ignorant.
