Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

Totally disagree with this sentiment.

Disney will honor the original deal Universal had with Marvel. If it was a good deal then, it will be a good deal now. All that has changed is how the check is made payable.

Seriously, people, this stuff happens all the time in the world of entertainment. It might annoy some folks at Uni just like Disney might get irritated that Uni has the rights to their properties. But neither side is going to upset the apple cart on a deal that is mutually beneficial.

Neither WDW nor Universal is likely to be effected by this deal for a long, long time.

You're making an assumption that the deal is mutually beneficial. I'm not sure how you can come to such a conclusion.

What do you mean why? This will ruin the integrity of the Disney parks if Marvel is incorporated into them. It just wouldnt be the same, Super Heros and Mickey? Ughhh I dont think so! Do you think that Walt would of done this? I dont think so!

Jedi and Mickey? Ughhh I don't think so!

Inadiana Jones and Mickey? Ughhh I don't think so.

Honestly you have NO idea what Walt would have done. You're not Walt. You'll never be Walt. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Twilight Zone, and Aerosmith didn't ruin the integrity of the parks. In fact, they helped to create some of the best attractions from WDI. Just as Marvel could help create some of the best rides anywhere. In fact, they've already made THE best ride anywhere in The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

So step back, and use some logic before you go crazy.

question? does Uni have exclusive on all characters Marvel has for east of Miss. or just ones currently being used, and is it only for theme parks? If not, this opens up WDW to themed resturants, stores, or maybe a water park. A great themed water park could maybe force Uni's hand to just re-theme. That or Disney could just rent a bunch of bill boards on I-4 stating Marvel - a Disney company
Exactly. This is what I'm talking about when I say Disney has to make some kind of move to integrate the brands in order to make this a bad deal for Universal in the world we all inhabit, and not just on paper.

Even if they can't bring Spider-Man to the Studios park, they could do some local or national branding to make it clear who owns the characters. Put a big curly D on the front of every Marvel comic. Run print or web ads where the Silver Surfer pays a visit to Epcot. If enough of that starts going on, then the argument that Universal will want to unload the characters starts making a lot more sense to me.

Right now, we just don't know how much, if any, of that they plan to do.

Presumably if it wasn't, Uni would have backed out before now.

It's an assumption on my part. But then, none of us really knows anything.

My point is just that nothing of any substance has changed regarding Universal's deal with Marvel.

Agreed. We have no idea what they're gonna do. But the speculation sure is fun.

And you better believe Disney's logo will go on EVERYTHING Marvel in the next couple months.

True, but who says Tony Stark needs to be Robert Downey Jr in the parks? I mean Spider-Man isn't Tobey Maguire.

Not any time soon. But I don't think it's that far out of the realm of possibility that it could happen.

Well, nothing's outside the realm of possibility.

As a Disney fan and a comic book fan, I'm super hyped about the merger. The possibilities are endless!

But realistically, nothings going to happen any time soon. And it could be decades before anything of substance happens at Disney's FL parks.

I'm not trying to squelch anyone's enthusiasm here. But people should stop panicking and/or foaming over this.

I can realistically see something in 15 years.

Yea, not soon at all, I'll agree. I think we'll definitely see something on the West Coast or DLPR sooner though.

You think?

I don't expect to see a Disney logo on Marvel comics any time soon. A lot of Marvel fans are recoiling at this merger. I expect Marvel to continue buisness as usual.

My predicition is that Disney will start making new Marvel content for Disney XD. They'll announce some video games. They will sell merchandise at the Disney stores. Beyond that, I'd be surprised if we see much in the next 5 years.

I find that highly doubtful. You don't see the Disney logo on Quentin Tarantino's movies or other movies from Miramax. I think Disney will strive to give the impression that it's business-as-usual at Marvel. Adding the Disney stamp would only jeopardize Marvel's popularity with some geeks, many of whom are already skeptical of this deal.

Agreed.

I think 15 years may be on the fast end, but then again maybe not. CA and overseas locations will definitely take advantage of this.

Personally, I've never been to Disneyland. I'm looking forward to the DCA make-over. Maybe in 10 years, I can go check out both parks and a Marvel park!

I'm not saying there's going to be a giant Mickey head on every comic, but I certainly believe there will be something small, but recognizable, on the front or back of Marvel comics very soon

Stop complaining OLD TIMERS!!

Man all of you old timers complaining about the acquisition should shut up!!!
This is wonderful for Disney in the long run and is amazing for DHS a park that tries to cater to the youth. This is exactly what that park needed to get teenage boys going. No one is complaining that Darth Vader is like five minutes away from the muppets so why should wolverine and the x-men be any different???? There not much of a difference between Star War nerds and Comic book nerds anyways.

Embrace the new and stop clinging to the past!!!

(I know that currently there are no plans for marvel in DHS but I think that’s where it would fit in the best if they did decide to bring the characters to the parks.)

I guess we'll see. But I would expect no more Disney branding than WB brands DC Comics. There will probably be some mention of Disney buried in all the publisher info and that's about it.
