Disney Springs construction begins

Very excited about this too. Will seriously consider SSR once this project is complete.

lol and that's what I'm afraid of too along with the masses using SSR busses from the theme parks as a way to get to DTD today. Hopefully Disney will run busses there from the parks (maybe starting in the afternoons???) once it becomes Disney Springs?

Good point. WDW Transport will need to ensure their transportation plans for the increased DTD traffic won't screw up those staying at SSR and who need the buses to get to and from the resort, not as a way to get to DTD. I can't remember - will they charge for parking at DTD once the garages are complete? If so, there won't be any reason they can't actually add DTD buses to the park routs. What a great rout for a Monorail... :)

My guess is the mouse has an app in the works. And if not, they really should hire me because I have some good ways to solve this problem.

I don't know why they don't run buses now!?! Why couldn't they require that everyone boarding a bus from DTD to a park show resort ID? Sure it would be a longer process but not as long as transferring to a resort and then getting another bus to a park. Just enforce bus transportation from DTD to theme parks is for resort guests only. I can't stand trying to get to DTD from a park or vice versa, it's such a pain in the "you know what"!!!

Here is what it says in the current edition of the Downtown Disney Guidemap:
Leaving the Downtown Disney Area?
* To get to Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, take a Bus to any Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, and then a Bus to the appropriate Park.
* To get to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, take a Bus to any Walt Disney World Resort Hotel.
* To get to Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, take a Bus to any Walt Disney World Resort Hotel and then another Bus to the Park.

As you can see, Disney is telling people to use Resort buses to get to the theme parks. And while not mentioned, it's obvious that you can get back to DTD using the same Resort buses in reverse. Everyone seems to assume that Disney frowns on this practice. If that were the case, they wouldn't print the instructions on how to do it!

then they SERIOUSLY need to either
A - run specific busses to/from parks to/from DTD
or
B - run more SSR busses to accomodate (I've heard cast members and bus drivers telling guests they can use SSR busses to get to DTD)

My guess? A fear of a guest melt-down every 60 seconds or so. Bus drivers have enough stress without having to act as bouncers as well.

That said, I think it would be more reasonable to demand the same of Saratoga Springs passengers. I think they are the ones getting the short end of the stick here.

(Of course, the easiest solution would be to reduce theme park parking to a nominal fee--say $3--or, gasp, make it free.)

They used to run buses between the parks at DTD, but people would park at DTD for free and then go to the theme parks to avoid paying for parking. As usual, a small number of jerks create problems for the rest of us.

and this is where the RFID tags can come in handy.... you'd need them to enter the parks right so you'd have them...they can then tell who are resort guests and who aren't. Would that ever happen... very doubtful... but when DTD becomes Disney Springs, my guess is the SSR busses which can already be bad (especially in the evenings/night from the parks) will get worse

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
Disney could expand NGE to include readers on the bus or at the stops, if you are a valid on-site guest it turns green, if not... well you get red and are not admitted. There is a reason they named the program Disney Resort Transportation. The only flaw I can see here is when you have on-site guests using the buses to SSR to get to DTD instead of their own resort.

Quick question. I'm coming with my family from Syracuse, NY next May. I know Downtown Disney's undergoing expansion at that time. Will the World of Disney Store remain open during that time?:)

They are expanding the size of WOD as part of the project, but I would think they would always have at least part of it open during the project since it's a pretty major store.
