Disney Springs construction begins

I can't wait to see what the final list of vendors are going to be for DS... the only vendors I'm against are the high pricy fashion shops that were thrown around when it was first announced.

Sure they do. If it keeps that customer from leaving Disney property and going over to Millenia, then I would think Disney would be all over it. Keeps your higher end (or debt laden) customer on property longer.

Again, you are stating the reason why Disney wants the high end stores, but NOT the reason (if it exists) why high end stores want to be at Disney Springs, where up to now they well t-shirts and magnets- stuff like that.

Plain and simple. They would want to be there to make money. Millions of visitors each year through the doors is the appeal. Access to international visitors who have the coin to fly thousands of miles and often stay for over 7 days. If they are from Europe there is the added draw of the currency translation with the weaker dollar. Sure if you opened a random high end clothing store next to World of Disney in DTD's current layout it would feel out of place. If the makeup of new vendors is a mix of high end vendors they won't seem out of place at all. I think it's a no brainer for most of these retailers to want to be there.

Well, we will see. Won't know for sure until the place is done. Although I've heard Apricot Landing or whatever hasn't done so well. Have they closed their doors for good yet?

They will have a captive audience.

If you're saying they're rolling the dice, I'll agree with you there.

I would think that vendor selection would be a very "delicate" process. Trying to consider the target "audience", items that people want, and items that people don't know they want, but will. Obviously any 3rd party willing to agree to Disney's terms and money involved is a huge factor. However it's done, I'm really looking forward to seeing what vendors are coming, what they'll actually be selling (please be unique!), and the final theme, layout, and design concept.

Has there been any demolition work or dirt moving going on since the Springs announcement? I just keep hearing about the trailers being installed.

Attractions just posted a YouTube video of the rainforest cafe volcano effect. It's insane how impressive it is. A lot of fire. How long can they keep it going like that? Probably need to rush out and see it. Afraid they might revert to using strobe lights in a couple weeks.

It's not just about money (well, it is, but not in the sense that X store could sell $Y in merchandise). High end retailers are selling an image more than an actual product. If the idea of their store being overrun by strollers or being stuck next to Goofy's Candy Kitchen doesn't match the image they are selling, there are still plenty of customers at Premium or Millenia. Don't forget, the original plan for PI was high-end restaurants, like on Sand Lake Road. None of them bit.

Permits have been filed for some demolition, but haven't heard if it has actually started yet. One of the permits is for, I believe, the Comedy Warehouse building and the other is for the West Side sign.

Took pictures of these today - I knew about the food trucks, but a merchandise truck?

Taco Truck!

Yep, These were both there last month and I have no idea when they arrived. While I have no issue with the taco truck, I do wonder exactly how much more Disney crap they expect to sell by having this out there. I looked at the stuff they were selling and it was typical generic WDW crap.
