Disney Springs construction begins

Holy crap. I may not be in construction, heck, I don't know the first thing about it, but do you have to file a permit for everything? Couldn't a general worksite permit be enough? (If they even have such a thing) Why do you have to file a permit to take down a sign?

Keep in mind, these are legitimate questions as I know completely zero about this sort of thing.

In my limited experience with these permits, this is unusual. With Fantasyland there was a couple permits, one for each section, issue to the general contractor that covered the entire project. Once those permits were issued we really didn't see any more detailed permits. Maybe in this case there isn't a general contractor so Disney it pulling the permits for each task they are giving out to a sub-contractor. It's also interesting to note that all these notices of commencement (we call them permits) so far have a expiration date of 12/31/2017 even though the work listed in each permit will take much less time then that.

I was browsing the net for info, and read about rumors of both a Food network restaurant? and 'Trader Sam's' Which is a tiki bar place in Disneyland California if im right? I've only been to Disney in Orlando, not California (yet) do you think its true that Disney Springs will have these? Or is it just talk?

The Trader Sam's rumor has been floating around a lot, especially since Disney Springs was announced. Don't know if there is any truth to it, but it would be a good addition to DTD. Haven't heard the Food Network rumor but it wouldn't be surprising considering that Disney has partnered with Food Network on a number of things in the past.

Was there a couple weeks ago. Nice to see things will change there. I remember the old days. When pleasure Island was hopping and the clubs and I still have some of my stuff from the Adventurers club, the Beach Club we danced and ate in and Fireworks Factory. I loved that area. I like original places, not just the chain stuff celebrity chef's. When Disney ran it and not outsourced everything. I can get that stuff in Vegas or Miami or NYC or Chicago. When I escape to Disney, I want to see stuff and do stuff I cant do anywhere else. Hopefully this will be good, and affordable and Disneyfied....

I did so (thank you for that), and I'm a bit surprised by some of those names. Are we really going to see a
a Brooks Brothers or Tory Burch or Dior store at Disney Springs. I mean, Disney can say they want "high end" stores, but do high end stores want to be in Disney?

Aaah, the Fireworks Factory- pardon me for reminiscing for a moment, but oh how I loved that place. I was just blending up a pina colada over last weekend and decided to put it in my old Fireworks Factory glass for nostalgia's sake. (sigh)

Nothing on that list has been confirmed.

Sure they do. If it keeps that customer from leaving Disney property and going over to Millenia, then I would think Disney would be all over it. Keeps your higher end (or debt laden) customer on property longer.

as far as 3rd party vendors are concerned.. Several contracts are set to be commited within the next 2 weeks (before the end of the quarter.) most of them are already agreed to in principle. Not sure if there will be any public announcements once they get these done.. but signage around the construction walls is likely to pop up ;)
