So when I opened Islands of Adventure, Universal thought it was a good idea to go without lids for drinks as a cost-saving measure, and I'm sure some excuse about the environment too. Didn't end up being a big deal, but they brought lids back a few years later.
Kids + no lids = big mess. It could help with t-shirt sales though :)

Maybe Disney can make shirts out of the leftover plastic straws...another way to profit from this evil plan ;)
Baskets. Weave the straws into baskets.

Yeah I agree freestyle machines are the best! Also, yeah I've been behind some slow people. Once I stood behind someone who kept rechecking her cup waiting for the minutes to go down before she could refill.

Yeah "strong reaction" is definitely the right way to put it! I only made a few small comments about it and everyone is desperately trying to prove to me that drinking soda without ice is impossible, wrong and should never be attempted.:D

It is a personal preference. Not impossible, not wrong, but not having ice makes the experience less pleasant because that is what you are used to having.
Sort of like deodorant - if you are used to using it and being around others who also use it, it is unpleasant to be exposed to those who do not. It's the way you like it, and if you had to live someplace where it was not available you would get used to it and it would no longer bother you. But there would be a transitional period, and most of us born and raised in the US (and many other countries) would avoid it if at all possible - even have relatives ship us a supply.

The same with ice in our soft drinks - most of us in the US prefer them that way, and would prefer to keep on having that option. Especially if we are in the US - most of us can adapt when on vacation or living in other places.

Just to bump this, some table service restaurants at the MK are already restricting plastic straws to request only. This includes kids cups as well. Skipper canteen and Liberty Tree are doing this, Tony’s is still serving with straws. Crystal Palace Did not for breakfast but I’m not sure about lunch/dinner.

So Disney decided its a good idea to use reusable liquid soap dispensers for guests. This is disgusting and i cannot fathom why they think its a good idea. They are not going to clean the inside of the bottles between guests im sure so unless they can guaranteee nothing is added in the bottles between uses there will be a lawsuit. Think of all the things people can do, add something to make your hair fall out, battery acid or worse. I do not get it at all. If they do clean out all product between uses then we are wasting soap resources.

At one time years ago Disney did use paper bags. I still have some pack rat that I am. Today I would not like to deal with paper that could split or fall apart.

They won’t be cleaned out between uses. Just like the soap dispensers in every public bathroom or the ketchup in a restaurant.

I’m not a big fan of this change, but I also don’t think you need to worry about battery acid in your shampoo bottle. Now that you mentioned it, I’m making my kids shower first just in case ;)

The bottles are mounted in a dispenser that locks.

Many large hotels do this. Disney is actually pretty far behind when it comes to moving this direction.

Because Disney used to be different, a cut above the rest. It used to set itself apart from hotel chains and other run-of-the-mill establishments. It's abandoned that in the name of the almighty dollar/profit margins/quarterly profits.

The only "green" motivation behind anything Disney does that they purport to be "environmentally-friendly" is the green of US dollars.

I will say that being on these boards the last week or so has made me realize what an uncultured swine I am. I have yet to see soap dispensers in any hotel I've stayed at. I've yet to stay at hotel that charged me a parking fee. And that $65 for fast food nachos, nuggets and 7in pizza and a couple drinks is normal. But that's what seems to be the norm I guess.

I do understand the whole plastic straw controversy, and I applaud the efforts to clean up the environment, but I think there are far more significant changes that could be made to improve the environment for future generations. Balloons, plastic beverage bottles(and their caps), and disposable shopping bags have a much larger impact on our environment and could just as easily be eliminated. An alarming trend I've noticed lately is parents feeding their young children "organic" foods from "disposable" packets, that, once discarded, will probably survive on this earth longer than those children's children will.
So eliminating plastic straws is a great idea, but so much more needs to be done to preserve this planet.
I totally agree.Plastic straws will kill the world? And you are right about all disposable packets of food being hugely more impacting, etc. I have been washing disposable straws in my dishwasher for at least 10 years, bottles are refilled, plastic shopping bags are so re-used.2,3 or 4 times. It's not about getting rid of a viable product,it's about re-using it.
