This has been the norm for years at high end hotels. I am curious to see if/when these chains start to switch to the bigger bottles. Marriott has started switching over their hotel brands, but I still haven’t see it in a JW or Ritz Carlton. I think it’s also possible to offer high end brands in bigger bottles. Disney isn’t going from designer brands of little bottles down to a big bottle of the bobo Target brand shampoo. It may take some time for this trend to take hold, but it’s very possible it will eventually be the norm...even at luxury resorts. Bottle size doesn’t equate to quality of the product.

Or he was mistaken. Or you are.

I live nearby, I like the resort, I eat there frequently. The Mara is my favorite QS at Disney. They've always had lids until sometime this past week. All I did was ask a CM if they could put some more lids out as there were none in the normal spot. He seemed annoyed that I had even asked about it and was rude in his response. So yes, he may have been mistaken but he could have said, "Sorry, we don't have those any more" and been done with it.

I would have been happier just buying a bottle of soda had I known there wouldn't be lids, or in the future I will bring back old refillable mugs and just transfer the soda so I can at least get my money's worth. There's no reasonable way to bring a soda with you now when there are no lids for the cups.

I promise we are a green family. We recycle as much as possible. We reuse like crazy. My mother started us when we were little, an example is at Christmas where all but the most mangled boxes, paper and bows were stored away and reused. I can live without straws and lids, and I think the insane amount of plastic packaging that all manufacturers believe everything from a small doll to electronics require is insane.
When I make my store runs at home I am prepared and take in my reusable bags.
But at Disney I don't want to carry a bag I may not use that day. We travel very light, no bags, back packs etc. And If on a whim I would like to buy something I definitely would like a Disney bag. The plastic is wonderful for the frequent rain, water rides, or accidents with drinks with no lids. :) The bags themselves are treasured at home and again used a ridiculous amount of times.
I apologize as I was trying to write this without sounding whiny, not sure if I succeeded, but I hope Disney can come up with a more reasonable solution than having to buy yet another green bag I don't need.

I don't think you sound whiny. I agree...I do not care about the straws and lids being taken away. I care more about the bags. We treasure our disney bags too lol. I would even be willing to pay fifty cents or a dollar to have the option of getting that plastic bag and then have them use all that money towards an earth saving/conservation fund or something. I wouldn't always want the plastic bag but sometimes you buy something that's too big or fragile to put in a pocket but also too small to warrant a bag the size of a reusable.

Maybe they'll start selling those super-lightweight foldable ultra-portable shopping bags? The ones that fold up into the size of something that can fit into your pocket? Or the ones that squoosh down into a cute shape like a strawberry or cow (or maybe Mickey Mouse, hint, hint)? I could use one of those and it would definitely help remind me of my Disney trips.

Was in MK yesterday and was told by a Pecos Bills CM that Disney is no longer offering lids for environmental reasons. (seems like going green is an easy cost cutting measure?)

Didn't see a single lid in the Magic Kingdom all day yesterday or today....

... But I did see a ton of spilled drinks... Especially from kids.

I wonder if those that made the lid decision knew the cups are designed to be used with a lid for stability? If they want to be green it really needs to be a stand alone cup design.
Depriving me of half the sugar delivery system does not make for a happy guest no matter how "green" they think they are being but I guess we know how they are paying for the free tuition.
