No, I didn't mean to imply that they should be out for extended periods of time. The problem when we see a burnt out lightbulb is that it might have gone bad just before we saw it. We all know from everyday life is that we never know when a bulb is going to commit suicide. If it is the same ones over a long period of time, no excuse other then with the number of bulbs in the place, how can we be sure that it is exactly the same bulb? Could be another in the same area and unless we stand there and count out the location, we may be right, but, we are really just guessing that it is the same one. My argument is with fixing something that isn't broken. It may still go for years, it may go for a few more days, but, it needs to be spent before it is changed out. It's not the money... we know that Disney can afford it, it is more basic having to do with the resources it requires to make the items. That is the waste and who recycles lightbulbs? We throw them away.
DACS was designed to monitor bulb use and estimate when it was time to change them before they expired. Just sayin'

Yes sir, and at one point in time cars were 3 tons of solid steal, that got 8 miles to the gallon. Times have changed and although I realize that the lights were and are part of the design I don't get upset if one burns out, because, even with DACS the bulbs were independent thinkers and didn't take orders from DACS. The burnt out even with that oversight. The part that has always upset me is how intolerant so many people are about things out of anyone's control. Although I am aware that they are not always taken care of immediately or even that night it is pretty petty to get all upset about a light bulb that is nothing more then peripheral candy and not at the top of anyone's priority list. There are usually bigger fish to fry. Yes, I know back in the perfect world they had crews that had nothing to do except go around and change light bulbs, well, they don't anymore or their numbers are reduced. Such is life.

Why do you get to decide that an entire field of design is not important?

OK, with so many people giving ideas again about simply improving the ride and not really debating a replacement lately, I have to ask if I have missed an announcement for rumor that they will re-up with TCM and actually keep the ride, or renovate it, instead of replacing it.

Can't say that I have read every page, and I know we like to discuss things ad nauseum, but I just wondered if I missed something. And, yes, I really hope I have missed something. I would like nothing more than to see this ride kept and updated rather than gutted and becoming a two-minute Mickey Mouse coaster.... It is so well-themed and researched and immersive.

no you have not missed anything. By all reports from the insiders here, the GMR will close this fall at some point, and be revamped into the Mickey ride. Date has not been locked, and Disney has not formally announced anything yet.

Dear Disney!

Can you help a brother out by keeping GMR open until mid-September? I want to say my goodbyes.

Signed,

Giant GMR fan.

P.S. Please don't get rid of this ride. Make it the Great Disney Movie ride and put only Disney movies in (if you have to), but please don't destroy this classic ride system and attraction. Especially at a time when you have so few rides at DHS. The Mickey ride would fit great over in the Animation Courtyard don't ya think.

Why do you?
None of us decided it, the creators of these parks did (Walt Disney, his like-minded business associates and for a while those who came after his passing but still chose to uphold those standards). They set a higher standard for themselves to begin with, so it is only logical and fair for their fans and customers to hold them to those same standards.

A couple of lights being out among hundreds of working ones is entirely understandable. The problem is when they pile up to the dozens or more and management sits for months or even years without fixing them. The original system of light maintenance was quite effective. The only bulbs that would be broken were the rare 1 in 100 sort of defect that did not match its life expectancy (and Disney maintenance changing bulbs out at 80% life expectancy further reduced chances of seeing any broken bulbs). And those too were addressed proactively overnight and not left unaddressed.

I'm actually glad to see LED tech reaching such a mature and quality state finally. Besides now looking great (when the proper color is used that is), it can help compensate for Disney's lesser management policies in the modern era. Though even this hasn't completely compensated as LEDS can die prematurely if materials, wiring etc aren't up to snuff (Narcoosees is now all LED but has a lot of non functional lights).

I am low-key alright with this attraction closing. I've been on it multiples of times and it is very action based and a ton of fun. However, I think Disney realized this ride isn't as popular anymore as people now move onto more high tech attractions and experiences. However this ride will always be in my heart and I will always remember screaming and covering my eyes during the Alien part. :hilarious:

Can't wait to see what they replace it with! Have we already talked about this and I missed it?:hilarious:

I think Dinosaur should be replaced with the Indiana Jones ride that's like the one in Disneyland. It's basically the same ride with a different theme.
I like where you're going because I love Indiana Jones at Disneyland.
However the theme IS animals so Dinosaur works for the area. Also, I ADORE the Dinosaur ride!! :hilarious: It will always be my favorite!
Plus, they just recently refurbished it so it isn't so "hey the 90's called... they want they're special effects back." The ride is so much better now after refurb.

Disney continues to hire lighting designs and it's not like fixtures are being replaced with 60 watt A-series ones so they can just buy one bulb at Home Depot.

Indy is an archaeologist. I think it would fit because of what he does for a living. I mean, he's not a paleontologist or anything but they both dig up stuff.
