That has been a lot of what we have been discussing...they will then be essentially down to 4 rides in the park...as long as the public keeps coming through the gates, they will continue...

Or a photo of pretending to skateboard down the street in SF.

Or watch the street performers. I loved the Blues Brothers - a flash mob before they became trendy!

Or "sit" on the steps in front of one of the houses.....

Yes, I'm one of the few it seems who just loved the whole SOA and Backlot Tour part of the park. Glad to see I'm not alone. I did flinch when I read somewhere on here that apparently "all that stuff became old fashioned in the 90s". Guess it just shows a) that you love the park when you first visited (92) and b) I'm an 80s girl at heart!
Don't forget our friends at Mulch, Sweat & Shears. I have spent more time in that area just happily listening to the band in front of Youse Guys Moichandise than in a lot of other areas of the park. I also loved the Pawn shop from Once Upon a time being added at the end of the SoA. Mr Gold's shop was a great touch!!! Marie

Probably wouldn't be much better to do that since Star Wars will draw tons of people into the park and they will want other stuff to do. Best option at this point would probably be to close it after TSL opens and have it done before SWL.
Ugh you mentioned it...TSL..I keep hoping it was a bad dream and they came up with a better idea...lol It really is happening.

I haven't posted in a long time and admittedly did not read ALL of this thread. I did have a question though.

How can the GMR be closed at this time? You would think that with Star Wars Land being built they need this ride open for traffic?

Yes, they're biting the bullet with this one. But the reason given by one of our insiders regarding timing is
  • they want Mickey up and running before the 50th anniversary, which would be difficult if they started after SWL opened
  • they have a window of opportunity to work on it while SWL is being built, because, once SWL is operational, then TGMR would be an island of construction in the middle of the park. It's easier to do what they're going to do right now rather than later

Slowly, but it's happening. It really should have been open by now and should have started very soon after the Backlot tour was closed. No reason that sat untouched for a year. Especially when it's construction is all mostly taking place where guests WEREN'T allowed.

And they STILL cut bits from the land! I know the budgets from WDI are ridiculous but they shouldn't have taken any axe to an already barebones land.

I couldn't agree with this more. The timing of a lot of these enhancements seem to be a reactionary thing. I wish that this had been done more in phases as this park was pretty amazing and could be so again. Too much was brought down or cut all at the same time, to make way for bigger and better. I am excited for the future of the Studios, but as it is already a smaller park, it should have been done one land at a time to minimize guest impact. Marie

And, to me, there was no reason to cut the parade from the park and no reason to cut Mulch, either. There's room for all of it. They just wanted to trim the budget "fat" IMHO.
I adore Mulch as anyone who knows me knows, but with the available real estate, I cant see where they would have put them other than in the Flex theatre back by RnRC. Anywhere else would just cause a bottleneck in a park that cant handle it as is. I agree they should have been kept as this park needs every attraction it can get right now and I would LOVE to see them restored. Anywhere that you can think of that wont interfere with stroller parking, or traffic flow? I wonder if there would be a spot in TSL once it opens? Maybe a rock band playing at the Pizza Place?? Any other thoughts? Marie

Yeah, I agree that space is needed for Mulch. I even notice the Hollywood Citizens are sometimes outside of the park gate (or has this always been a thing I missed?). I think they could have maybe found room but it just screams of easy to cut. Entertainment at WDW is a weird thing. Parades, characters, and entertainment all seem to be included and one park affects the other. I don't really understand how it's all run or decided upon. Like they cut a few things for Muppets in Liberty Square, and I know some will try to argue they didn't but if you count the performers used for Muppets it equals the entertainment cut for it ...

Since TSL will only have two attractions there should be plenty of dead space to put a theater...
I'm not sure if I want them in a theatre though, as they seemed to intrigue a lot of people just making their entrance into the Studios with the music going and the bright yellow truck cruising down the street. Also I loved the interaction of the band with the guests, once again a testament to how awesome great cast members can be. Little kids got up and danced, were invited to join Morris or Mia on stage to play air guitar or cowbell, or help to sing. The guys would come around and let the kids play the strings on the guitar or bass, give high fives etc. It made music very accessible to the audience and I think was one of the reasons they were so popular. I think a theatre would minimize the number of people who would see and hear them, although admittedly I'd like it so I wouldn't get rained on or roasted in the sun. Maybe a block party concept with some of the kids from Andy's band in school stopping by to play?? Marie

They could have at least moved Move It/Shake It to the Studios and used Mulch and re-designed it ... just a thought. I'd rather the characters and entertainment budget used for that go elsewhere at the MK. It's so bare when it comes to entertainment. But the crowding is probably one reason for a lack of entertainment.

Agreed. Moving around the Studios was tough in most areas when I was there last in Mid March. I cant imagine with something that would draw a crowd like Mulch did. I have not seen the Citizens of Hollywood outside the gates but again crowding could be the reason why. Overall I would hope TSL opens as soon as possible to alleviate some of the crush and give people more attractions to enjoy. Also I thought I remembered some infrastructure stuff such as parking decks etc being done to the parking area, any further word on that? @marni1971 @WDW1974 ? Marie

As it stands the parking garages seem to have been deferred.

I hope that is a good idea at this point. I would think do it now while you aren't handling what will be serious crowd numbers after TSL and SW are built and operational. Right now, crowd numbers are down I would think and so the park can afford to take the hit. After those two areas open up? Not so much!! Marie

The cleared area east should be more surface parking. Cast will park here and to the south.

Once these lots are full you can bet the park will be too.

Remember, the garages were primarily for when SWL was going to swallow 1/4 of the available parking area.
