Forest Gump could be argued to be an Epic, he has many adventures there doesn't have to be sequel just many adventures in many different locations. I'm arguing that both movies pass all the tests to be considered Great Movies: huge influence, iconic, won many awards, etc... Also the passage of time should be considered, its been 20-30 years for both of those at this point. Although, Alien didn't help "make" Hollywood, but was a huge influence to the industry and one that still gets referenced to today.

People may say Forrest Gump wasn't influential, but I say that it has had a very significant lasting effect on American culture...

It changed the way we have all pronounced "buttocks" for the last 20+ years.

The time for "Mickey's Life" in the Animation Bldg instead of replacing GMR has come and gone(especially if they want it open prior to or at the same time SWL opens). It is all SW, all the time at DHS, and they aren't going to toss Launch Bay in the dumpster now(even though the investment was never that large), and put a new attraction in its place.

If at the time the decision was made to close down the Animation Bldg/attractions, it would have been great if they had the friggin' foresight to put "Mickey's Life" in that location, provide a much needed major upgrade to the GMR, and put the SW memorabilia fair, anywhere else in a part of DHS that is unused at the time.

It is so sad that the attraction replacement, instead of attraction addition is so prevalent.

I am not sure what is worse, DHS in its current state, or the massive crowds that are going to flock to the park when SWL opens, without the attractions to keep everyone in short lines and happy. This is why GMR AND "Mickeys Life" would be so much better than one or the other.

I think disagreement for some people is really a way for them to feed into a myth in which they are the heroes.

The animation building isn't the only other place it could go though. If they wanted they could also do some sort of expansion near/off of Sunset.

Also, where did the Mickey's Life name come from?

And The Mask changed the way we pronounced "smoking". I wouldn't necessarily call that a great movie either.
can there not be another thread for this discussion to happen in? it's exhausting combing through page after page for new info just to see some of you *ahem* constantly derailing things

I've lost track....has GMR closing actually been CONFIRMED? In print somewhere? Or is this thread the product of trustworthy insider info? Is it just rumored at this point? What's the OFFICIAL status? Not questioning anyone's veracity, just genuinely wondering what's its true official status is right now.

Reliable insiders indicate this is happening. One of the sources who is reporting this I trust very much. While plans can always change, it seems like this has been decided. Believe it or not, that's up to you.

I think I would be more sad if it hadn't been watered down by TCM. The new version is just cringy and the CM's don't get to do a proper job. I do love this ride and I will be sad to see it go because it's been a staple for the park for 27 years, but it's just going to get to the point where they butcher it to the levels of the Backlot Tour and it'll be crap anyway. Then everyone will be all like 'good riddance'.

I had a female CM who was our host last year who appears to not give a damn or show any excitement and didn't leave a bigger impact on me like it did back in 2006 and 2004.

far too often on this ride I must have had the same guide... barely mumbling through the script, and making it seem even lamer than it was... In the early days of the Studios I had some amazing guides that really treated it as an acting job and made it a lot of fun...

I honestly don't know. Nor do I know why they didn't stick Frozen Ever After in Fantasyland and that Guardians of the Galaxy thing they're apparently replacing Energy with in Tommorowland.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I agree with this. When I took place in the Imagineering competitions on this site, I replaced Stitch's Great Escape with a GoT ride. I can't tell you how many times I said on my trip last week to my boyfriend that the Frozen ride belongs in Fantasyland and GoT needs to be stuck in Tomorrowland (especially since it needs a new ride).

Bonus: The entire time I was in Epcot on my trip, Frozen was temporarily closed for a majority of it. Guess my angriness towards it replacing Maelstrom kept it closed ;)

The male CM comes to mind back when I rode it in 2004 and 2006 where it actually felt like I was in the middle of the action. I remember the female CM wore glasses including the robber.

I honestly won't miss this attraction. It's become old and stale. If the line is short, it's a great way to get in an air conditioned building on a hot day and cool off. It's was a great premise at one time, but I think that time has passed. I hope they put the space to good use.
