Not to pry too much, but do you suspect that there may be some new shows to replace Mermaid and BatB, not only to freshen up entertainment, but also to have something to promote as new while GMR closes to make way for Mickey?
I'd hope so. Whilst they keep being mentioned it's gone quieter regarding them. There is the possibility of the black box theatre being used as a general show venue next year.

It's another odd thing about the GMR project. Mickey is meant to open in time for SWL and the crowds, but how does the park cope when GMR is gone in the meantime? Another reason Mickey should be an addition not a replacement.

Think for yourselfer

I'd be curious to know how many people are actually riding GMR in any given day. I am sure you have the capacity numbers, but I can't imagine this thing is running anywhere near capacity anymore.

Finally something your right about. Who knew that could happen?

*Goofyernmost* (I'm guessing that adds class and finality to the post, so I figured I would do it to although it does seem a bit pretentious, but, what the heck. Oh, btw, feel free to ignore anything I say as irrelevant as well. It's a club I am happy to be part of.)

Hollywood Studios usually feels pretty empty. I feel if they added Great Mickey Ride and replaced Rnrc with goofy, they could add a mickey themed area to replace sunset boulevard. Fantasmic is already there, and they could make a Donald Tower of Terror replacement(Don't hurt me). It could be done quite quickly if they just overlayed RNCR and TOT and then made an entirely new Mickey attraction with GMR. This could be used to attract crowds while they are doing SWL and TSL. What do you think?

Something about Donald has always bothered me. He's a Duck and has wings yet he, along with Daffy, seems to drop like a rock so perhaps it will fit in the tower of terror quite easily.

I think I mentioned this earlier in either this thread or the TSL one, but TSMM will at some point have to go down as they close off Pixar Place and rerouted everything back into TSL, right? Maybe they have a plan around that, you might know, but it seems to me like it will have to close.

How will the park be able to manage having only 3 rides during that time, all of which having a height requirement? This is a really, really poor decision to have it replace GMR.

The park soon to be known as the park formerly known as Disney Hollywood Studios will likely need a new, cohesive theme. I pretty much think anything that isn't a Disney movie will not have a place in this park's new theme. I will personally miss this ride as I do MGM Studios, the park that inspired my Midwestern daughter to become an animator. When she was eleven years old the park inspired her. However, depending on how well it is done, this may be the ride that brings the cohesiveness the new park whatever that may be.

Thanks for the updates everyone. This is just my humble opinion of why this is being considered. Considering what else is going into the park, I guess it makes sense. I am just grateful that MGM was around when it was.
If that's the case it doesn't bode well for The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror :(

Seems like they should be able to do this without shutting down the attraction...temporary entrances, etc...

I just find this hard to visualize, with PP becoming backstage and a new exit path around TSMM to build, I feel like any temporary entrances will be really weird and make the queue that much bigger of a layout mess than it already is.

It would probably be weird for a while...but it just seems like a better idea than closing the ride. I have no information as to what they are going to do. Just my thoughts...haha

As much as I hate the current state of DHS's during this revival and rebuilding of the park I still enjoy a few hour visit to see some of my fav parts of the park and then walk over to Epcot and finish my day out there. I keep clinging to the hope that the wait will be worth it, it has to be right? Right?

We'll build a tree fort and put a sign out front that says "No Girlz" and we'll read comic books and eat nachos!

Forgive me for being completely late to the paty, but are we all sure this is happening? Is it official?

Why would Disney close down The Great Movie Ride? It's a perfect tribute to the world of movies. Why can't they just put it in Animation Courtyard, where a ride themed around Disney's iconic cartoon rodent would fit? Has Chapek's IP-obsession gone too far? Has shoehorning replaced actual theming?

What's going on around here?!
