Disney surveys guests about new Disney Jollywood Nights character Ollie

Disney doesn't seems to get WHY people like Figment and other original characters so much.
They have personalities, stories, and identities that are fleshed out through their attractions. Figment was not created for merchandise, he was created because HE WAS THE BEST WAY TO TELL THAT PARTICULAR STORY.
By playing up the new, official angle of "Figment was created to be a mascot for EPCOT because parks need mascots!" Disney is doing a great disservice to the creative genius of Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk.

Nobody likes Ollie because he exists to sell merchandise. He is on a few signs, and that is it.
Give him a meet-and-greet or a show or literally anything, and then we can talk about whether he "embodies the joyful spirit of the holidays"

the fact they named him Ollie given his cynical reason for existing is *chef’s kiss*

Look, you all say you want things based on non-existing IP .... We give you what you ask for and you still aren't happy?

No pleasing people around here

That's not the point at all. We want attractions, stories, immersive experiences that stand on their own or are based on shared, real world ideas. That could involve new characters, but it's not required.

I'm fine with Ollie, but there's no real reason to love him or hate him - at least yet. He's at best an underutilized mascot. He hasn't yet earned connection as, say, Figment, Leota, Skippy or Buzzy.

It's kind of like using Fork 3 from Be Our Guest and asking if we love them yet.

Guess I should have included [/sarcasm]

Meant it as how Disney execs would view it

Disney saw Lil'boo and Earl at Universal and realized they were being beat on original park characters... even though they have a library of them they refuse to utilize them.

The biggest difference is that Ollie is being forced on fans by Disney from the start, while Universal lets them develop over time before shoving it down our throats lol

I think had Ollie actually been given a purpose beyond marketing he would have been well-received. How difficult would it have been to do quick 5 min projection shows scattered throughout the park using the character? A M&G? Even a Kidcot style coloring station would have been something. They did nothing to introduce us to this character.

Disney could go to warehouse, pull out a bunch of the old Celebrate the Season Christmas characters- Frosty, White Horse, Gingerbread Man, Mr and Mrs Bear etc literally anything

Or

Bring out some classics. Pull out anybody. It would be added value. But they went the lazy route- Edna, Frozone etc

How the characters didn’t have a rain location is absolutely mind bogging!! It’s embarrassing.

How about Citizens of Hollywood?
Add a few? But they went with a light up Ollie. Can’t make this stuff up.

See I was thinking more along the lines of reusing the mascot name from a liquidation store - appropriate as well.

So Legoland has its own gingerbread mascot that is put on merch and appears in a show. The differences with Ollie are uncanny, as though someone in Disney legal was shouting at Ollie designers "MAKE IT MORE DIFFERENT, WE ARE NOT GETTING SUED OVER A GINGERBREAD MAN!"

Anyone know what time food and drink shuts down? At 12:30? Earlier? Does it vary by location? Thanks in advance.
