Disney is going to scale back the Polynesian DVC plans in a big way.

One basic amenity i was surprised to see Poly is lacking when i was there is a hot tub, not sure why it doesn't have one and its kind of stupid to have to go over to GF for one.

I agree...sort of...but we had a blast over at the GF pool the day we went over there and wouldn't have had the opportunity to experience the GF pool had the POLY had a hot tub.

Unless it is in an adult only area I find most hot tubs become baths for the whole family.

Color me surprised that Disney can do quick construction. Makes sense in this case as ROI starts as soon as the buildings are done.

There are more units than that. Tahiti alone has 143 rooms. Tokelau has 144 and Rapa Nui has 74 along with 20 bungalows. Even if they turned every room into a one bedroom (taking up two of the old rooms) that would be 180.

No pics, but when we were there 10 days ago none of the bungalows were completed; most were still in early building stages and I did not count them (to see if all 20 have been started) so there may be a few to be built yet.

In its 10K, Disney counts all DVC units as "two-bedroom equivalents".

Looking at the license:

"Timeshare Weeks": 8262

Then this might mean ~159 (8262 / 52) 2-bedroom equivalents.

Since a DVC 2-bedroom villas occupies 3 physical rooms, this becomes:

((143 + 144 + 74) / 3) + 20 = ~140 2-bedroom equivalents

At least it's in the ballpark.

I went over to the Polynesian today and wow it's so depressing over there. Walls everywhere in the lobby. I hadn't realized Trader Jack's was closed already either. Anyway, I took some pictures. Apparently I couldn't keep my finger off the lens when I was by the bungalows.

All the work in the lobby is now projected to finish in January or February of next year.
