Disney is going to scale back the Polynesian DVC plans in a big way.

Those bungalows are not what I had imagined. I had assumed something like that Bora Bora place, where they line a dock projecting out into the water. Not just sitting right off the beach.

Agreed. I envisioned half as many to try to maintain some nice sight lines from the beach. I wonder what they'll be charging for the 1st floor Bungalow View rooms? (Not the Bungalows themselves, but the rooms in the renovated buildings that overlook sand & bungalow since that's about all those folks will see.) Now you can pay a premium to have a great view of someone else's premium!

The bungalows ruin the whole view that people are paying top dollar for, at least on the ground level. What a mess. Why not build off to the side closest to TTC and keep the views. Poly has now become a full blown DVC place, no longer a deluxe resort. Who wants to stay in a lagoon room view when all you see are those bungalows and the people in them. Plus, where is the privacy in the DVC bungalows when everyone can see you. Great idea, poor execution.

I wouldn't be paying for a Lagoon View room if I saw the bungalows from my balcony. Just like I wouldnt pay for the Lagoon View room at Beach Club if it overlooked a service roof. I want to look out and see the water, the Lagoon, with some trees and a pathway or two in the foreground.

Poor Poly.

I like the bungalows, staying there would be awesome I think as they will be state of the art inside. :)

The tropical theme is not one that has ever caught my fancy, just not a beach guy I guess so the Poly has never really appealed much to me. But high tech would win me over to the bungalows :)

It will be interesting though to see the future of the Poly, I would imagine it will still be booked very heavily based on location if nothing else. I wonder how many DVC points the bungalows will fetch, I would imagine it will be SSR Treehouse level + some...

That is a shame. We stayed at Tahiti, lagoon view, bottom floor twice and I remember the kids sitting on the patio watching the electric water pageant. Not anymore. Those things are so close to the beach that I doubt you will even be able to see the castle either. No way are they going to get top dollar for those bottom rooms anymore.

Just saying - these are water view rooms at Beach Club...

WOW! While that's a fine lookin' roof :)rolleyes:) that's a surprisingly sad water view. Thanks for sharing. I almost booked that one time but the timing didn't work. In retro, that's the best failure I've had. ;)

I hope you asked for and received a partial refund, this view is ridiculous for those prices!
We did voice our displeasure with those rooms, but I don't think a partial refund happened. In fact, I'd be curious to know if they're still listed as "water view" rooms. They shouldn't be anything higher than standard.

As for Poly, I doubt the obstructed views (due to the bungalows) will have a major impact on room allocations. Many of the most affected rooms (in Tahiti) are among those being converted to DVC. As for the other affected building (Hawaii), perhaps they'll convert some MK views back to lagoon view, but even that seems unlikely. That would be too much effort for the benefit of paying customers, right?

Rode by them on the boat from GF going over to MK a few weeks ago. Was not impressed - they look like a common duplex on a concrete dock, nothing special. Will certainly block the Lagoon view for the first floor or two of the building behind them.

I wonder how many $$$$ per point to purchase; GF Villas sell at $150/point.. Disney hasn't given any DVC staffers any info yet, not even a start sell date. Which is usually months before opening. Point usage may be closer to GF than Treehouse.

Yeah the DVC guide at SSR last month said they had heard nothing about Poly cost or points yet. It will be interesting to see though.

Nor do they have any idea of what the bungalows will look like. But they've had a waiting list for months....

But might be a good time to either buy in or get more points at other DVC resorts. I bet there will be DVC members dumping their contracts to replace them with Poly, just like when GF Villas went on sale.

Be even worse if the rooms behind the bungalows are the non-bungalow DVC buildings. Imagine if you are a DVC member and THAT is your view.....

Two buildings behind the bungalows will be the DVC buildings. The third, Hawaii, is the club level building. Those expensive views have indeed been ruined.

"Honey, I've got some good news for you! Disney just opened up a new DVC resort at the Polynesian and I've bought us 200 points at $150 a point. They've got these great waterfront bungalows that will be an awesome stay for our 25th anniversary in 3 years! Plus we can stay at any other DVC resort, like the Grand Floridian Villas."

Skip to the future...hubby goes to make reservation for a week at the Poly bungalow for his 25th. Finds out that he will be waitlisted for a bungalow, so he books a regular DVC room in one of the other buildings. They check in and find out their view of the Lagoon is the back of one of the bungalows he can never get. That was an excellent $30,000 investment....
