Disney guest chokes girl who was blocking view of fireworks, deputies say

Do not agree at all re. the commercials and ads.
We might as well say that it's misleading to advertise cars depicted travelling at high speed down empty winding mountain roads, when reality might dictate sitting in stop and go urban traffic, or obeying low speed limits.
Might as well complain that the images shown in poolside or beach shots depict beautiful people with fit bodies, when in actuality the waterside is inhabited by hippos.
Do we really think, really expect Disney should run ads showing people standing in lines with 90 minute wait times on the sign?
Or, standing room only crowds at fireworks?
The woman in question was a beast, and that's that.

Bring the ad's closer to Unversal's which show a more realistic view of their parks including some level of crowds. The Ad does not need to validate every bad trope from the D&G Brigade's repertoire but it does need to show people that they will not be watching fireworks in a relaxed open air setting, Riding half full coasters and greeting princesses at checkin is not going to happen for your average guest

"Lawyer Says."
What do you think her lawyer is going to say?

I haven't convicted her just yet.

Their side of the story is a little different, it states that the argument actually started between this woman's own 17 year old daughter and the other teen and that the mother intervened. It goes on to say that “There wasn’t a physical fight,” he said, adding that "there was a request for them to sit down or move, and things rolled on from there, but she never choked the alleged victim." and that "He said he plans to "vigorously defend her" with the aid of witnesses deputies did not talk to."

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a little mutual "Cash Me Outside, How Bow Dah".

It doesn't have to happen to every guest.. but it is available.

Does everyone who visits Universal buy $50 wands for their children? Probably not.

Correct advertising for both WDW and Universal wouldbe stay away we charge too much and are too crowded. Save your money and enjoy your local Six Flags or Cedar Fair park.

Now, I would still go to WDW because I feel even with the crowds, lines and not being able to do everything I would like, I stil get a great value for my money.

That is my point. ALL of them do it. Not just Disney. A commercial is designed to show what can be done.. it doesn't mean that every person will be able to do all of it. And it doesn't mean that there will not be negatives while at any of these places.

People claiming that a situation such as the alleged choking are "understandable" bc of the stress of Disney, are either completely blinded by their own personal Disney Issues, or are just lying to themselves. It is excusing an action by saying what could have lead to it.. when really, that woman is the only thing that made her do that. Nothing else.

Any adult should realize that a commercial isn't an exact translation of what their vacation will be. Any adult will realize that crowds can exist. And any adult should realize that sometimes someone can block your view when watching something.
Everyone should use their digital TV and/or set top box to freeze the picture and actually read all the fine print that shows up just before the commercial ends. Disclaimers and conditions usually spell out everything folks have brought up in this thread.

I think you're the only one who got my point about "Unreadable Disclaimers".

And some should probably pay $79 each to watch Wishes from a comfortable venue but don't.

For several years, we would to watch Wishes! from a comfortable viewing location - the Tomorrowland terrace. Then, Disney monetized it. :banghead: End of comfortable viewing location = rarely watching Wishes! inside MK since.

Let's not forget this classic from 2015 explaining all of the wonderful things you can accomplish at WDW complete with beautiful imagery that would make Stacey proud - try not to count the number of faint disclaimers at the bottom of the screen :)

Nothing Beats A Disney Resort Hotel

.
There weren't nearly enough disclaimers... I only counted five (or six, if you count the two that were up simultaneously).

That's why I told you not to try. :)

But yeah, nobody watching that video with any common sense at all would let it impact their expectations, right? They'd know better, right?

Having come back from a weekend in WDW I can say this, and it is a trend I have noticed on the Christmas trip, the two F&W trips and the Halloween trip last fall/Winter. The behavior of patrons has gradually deteriorated to the point it is almost unbearable at times. Sometimes I feel so bad for cast members I want to intercede. Dont go to a ride you have a fp for and raise cain with the cast member because your kid doesnt meet the height requirement. Dont sit down in a spot for a show you know is marked or roped off and then whine they tell you that you cant be there. Control your kids. I saw more parents just ignoring screaming kids or trying to pacify them rather than just saying enough is enough. And it gets worse with each trip. I think the CMs are going out of their way and I saw plenty of it this past weekend, to make guests happy. I always offer a kind word or joke and laugh with them because Ive seen the crap they put up with. And its not just kids. While my daugbhter (17) and two of her friends were in line for BTMRR during F&W in November this lady and her friend were letting their brats run wild. One of them slammed up against my daughter and she stepped away. Then the kid proceeds to keep running into her which prompted my daughter to tell the kid in a terse voice "excuse you". The mother proceeded to call my daughter a brat and tell her she needs to deal with it. My daughter texts me because I was actually relaxing outside and had not wanted to ride. After the ride the lady, her friend and their kids come out behind my daughter and her friends and proceeds to start yelling at them. I stepped in and asked her if she just threatened 3 teenage girls to which she said they were rude. Little did she know a couple of adult people who witnessed the altercation in the line were just behind and also voiced what they saw, all calling her rude and telling her she needed to learn to be a parent. This is the state of the crowds. And it is not Disneys fault. yes they are packing the parks but that is no excuse to stop acting as an adult or teaching your kids to behave.

I feel like no one is making excuses, it's just some people on here realize that's there are sh*tty people in this world, and even if it's only .1% of the population, on a 50,000 day, that's still 50 sh*tty people in the park. Whether it's someone who choked a kid or whether it's a smart*** teen who made the whole thing up, someone did something inexcusable, but it doesn't SURPRISE us because humans - when stressed, frustrated, or knocked down off their pedestal - can sometimes be terrible.

Poor old lady tried all day to get on Space Mountain, give her a dang break and sit down so she can watch them fireworks! DO YOU KNOW WHO SHE IS!

Honestly, all of this sounds like Disney's setting themselves up for a new up charge event. Want to sit on your .. rear and eat a cupcake as you watch the fireworks without people standing in front of you? Upgrade to the Wishes sitting party package for just $199 per person.

WOW! Good thing they didn't claim you tried to choke them!

And there you have the beauty of a capitalist society - with great tragedy comes great opportunity. Because WDW is, after all, a business.

And with that ...... I'm outta here.

They will try anything to separate the guests from their money. Some schemes work, others don't. But they all end with more guest $$$ in the executive bonus pool.

I've been seeing fireworks in WaltDisney World since 1998 aproximatly, and i've never seen people sitting down in the middle of the hub? Must have been a slow day...

I experienced this behaviour before during the first 2 weeks of the Starwars fireworks at hollywood studious (the new projector show). Long story short, a friend of mine and I were looking for a spot to stand to see the fireworks roughly around 20-30 minutes before show time. The HUB was pretty full but there were still clusters of spaces as big as 5ft in diameter. Me and my friend just picked one of those spaces and stood there. There were people standing up and some sitting, unfortunatly the people immidiatly behind us were sitting and started making snarky remarks to each other like "Geez, some of us have been here for 2 hours just to have someone stand up in front of you 30 minutes before the show. how convinient". We kind of rolled our eyes and kept away from any confrontation knowing that by the time firworks start everyone will stand up anyways. Funny thing was that 10 minutes before the show, 3-4 other parties crammed in behind us... they were pretty ed... and it was pretty funny for us... *Vacation ruined for them* :cautious::hilarious:

High expectations can be a bi*****
