Disney announces thirteen new tenants heading to Disney Springs

I'm really getting tired of this mis information. Parking at disney springs is fine now that the Orange garage is open. The parking situation is 10 times better than florida mall's ever thought of being and there is another garage being built on the east side. There is absolutely no reason to avoid visiting disney springs because of the parking.

I think you are so, so off on this. Parking has been a nightmare since they started this mall transformation project. I finally experienced the wonder that is the ORANGE GARAGE last month. Sure, once you get into it, parking is generally fine. Of course, once I used to finally get into the street lots at DD, parking was never much of an issue for me, either.

It doesn't matter if you find a space in four minutes if it takes you half an hour (or more) to get to that point!

And how many people go to WDW to do so? You have to be realistic about who's shopping there. And I was pondering with a friend from this very forum last night how long it would be before some of these locations close up shop due to the price of being a Disney tenant mixed with sales ...
<Shrug>
We will see I guess. I know quite a bit of the foreign travelers do a ton of shopping when at WDW, and there will be some demand among the folks staying in moderate to deluxe level (if you can pay $300+ a night for a room, you can drop that for a dress).
I'm sure there will be turnover. There always is. I can feel that someone at Disney has done math to justify investing in upper-middle targeted stores. The bean counters are always involved. Whether the numbers really justify it, or were made to justify a decision already made will just have to play itself out.

I know I showed the store list to my wife last night and got an "ohhh!" on Lilly Pulitzer and a much happier gasp on UNIQLO. We have access to all of these stores now (UNIQLO coming soon), but rarely go shopping for these kinds of things. On vacation, at a shopping district, I know my wife would at least pop into them, not sure if she'd buy anything though.
Of course, that is anecdotal evidence from a sample size of one, but I'd be willing to bet that a moderately high percentage of these stores will do well enough to stay open.

Agree that it is a mess right now. That however is looking at a few months (year max?) over the rest of the lifetime of DTD and it is short term loss, long term gain.

Maybe my experience was not normal, but I went last weekend on a Friday night and had ZERO issues parking. I came from I-4, exited onto Buena Vista Drive from Epcot Center Drive, turned left into the lot across from Typhoon Lagoon in one light cycle, and parked within a minute or so. My friend came from property to meet me and parked in the Orange garage also without issue. Compared to before, even WITH the construction, it's already easier to park than in the past.

I think this may be my first post in the actual Disney Springs sub-forum. Do I get a free LE pin?

Two things: while it's a nice assortment of retailers and dining, the only one that jumps out at me at having the potential of being a 'it' place would be the Edison. And much of that depends of how Disney positions and markets the place. The rest are not special (and, please, save me the 'everyone' doesn't live near a major urban area where these BRANDS are ubiquitous ... because those people could largely visit the other top malls in Central Florida that have said locales).

And the other is why in the world (when you have such a stale product and never announce anything new) would you bury the news late on a Friday (where news still goes to die, even in the Twit Age)? This was actually some good news for the resort/project and I am quite sure they weren't waiting on 2-3 contracts yesterday to put this out. It almost assuredly could have been announced at their WWAAAAAAY KEWL Summer Blogger/Lifestyler event a few weeks back. And, if not, it could have gone out earlier this week.

Now, it will quietly die because all Disney news next week will be on Shanghai, Anaheim and Tomorrowland. No one except a few fans on sites like this will be talking about something called a ''cupcake ATM'' ...
STK, Morimoto, BOATHOUSE, Edison are certainly highlights - and in a level above what you will find at most lifestyle centers. Looking forward to all of those.

There are some more big things coming in the same vein.

Agree on the Friday night announcement, strange.

One IS coming. I have no idea why it hasn't been announced yet.
I understand it has been somewhat on and off. And of course, any announcements are done in cooperation with the tenants - and the Town Center area where the Apple store would go is about a year away from being done. It is more than likely just too soon if indeed the deal has closed.

Don't understand why big chains such as Zara, UGG and L'occitane are needed...I don't know about in the US but in Europe these can be found extremely easily, I'm pretty sure there's a Zara in the Florida mall. We used to visit DTD for the somewhat 'unique' shopping experience :(
I think those who are still looking for a uniquely Disney shopping experience should likely modify their expectations. That Disney Village Marketplace is pretty much in the past. The Village still exists and does have a decent selection of Disney products, but that's not what Disney Springs is. DS is to capture those guests who are trying to take a day and going out to the malls or the outlet malls off property. It is an urban lifestyle center, filled with many of the brands that go with those centers. Today's world is simply more homogenized. The thought is if Disney keeps those people on property with shopping and better restaurants, they don't lose the guest for the entire day - maybe they still go to the park in the morning, then spend the afternoon shopping, then back to the parks for fireworks. As opposed to a shopping day with no Disney. It also gives one less reason to have a car that could take people to Universal or Sea World. (In Disney's mind. I don't necessarily think that people really react that way in real life. If they want a car, they'll rent a car.)

But will Sprinkles have a cupcake ATM?
Yes. You can purchase an overrated, $4 cupcake anytime you want! :D

The garage is fine if you're going to the West Side or The Landing. The Village is a bit of a walk. Getting in and out requires some planning due to the construction, or you end up going out of your way. And the light at Hotel Plaza is a nightmare, backing up and creating a 5-15 min delay going from BV to Hotel Plaza by the gas station and sometimes a 5-10 min delay getting from Hotel Plaza to BV. But it's only temporary and when both garages are open, will be a breeze.

If you've ever been to Florida Mall which has essentially all the same stores at malls all over the world you will see tourists from everywhere carrying around luggage suitcases so they can load up on products for cheaper than what they can buy back home. I think Disney is trying to use this same technique.
I live minutes from Canada and this is their move. They come over spend theday, leave their old clothes in the parking lot, and wear their new ones home and also pack empty suitcases in case they need more. When they get to the border, they don't declare anything.

I agree. I have been to Disney Springs plenty of times since the garage opened and haven't had a single parking issue or any issue getting there. It's been much easier for me than when I used to try and park by the marketplace and WOD in the old days.

I am a huge Lilly Pulitzer fan, and if they offer a Disney-themed Lilly print in this new store, I will go bananas and probably buy it out. Lilly is known to create special prints to be sold only in special stores. This would be great. Given the recent frenzy over the Lilly for Target limited edition collection, which sold out in minutes and created Lilly fan mayhem, I think this store will be a hit.

Apparently I'm very lucky then because aside from waiting for a red light I haven't experienced a noticeable wait to get into the parking garage since January.

A few months ago I had very good luck entering from the west side. One night we did pull up behind a laugh group of cars being turned away from the garage. The car in front of us was told to go because there was a fire alarm, then when the were about to tell us the alarm ended. Dumb luck but there was a huge back up coming from the other direction.

Should note the Edison in LA is much more lounge/bar than the Disney version. Somehow, I don't think the burlesque shows will transfer.
I mean it could as long as they did strict age restricting. I mean, I don't see what the problem with it is if you have a room full of adults. Would make a hell of a lounge for conventioneers. I am still very skeptic that that part of it will transfer though.

I'm sure the lounge will be 21+ after a certain hour. (STK might end up being that way too.) Even with that, they still have to uphold the Disney ways. It absolutely will be a great spot for convention goers

You definitely are. The back up at night isn't horrible, but it isn't fun.

Would it be written into the lease? Not saying that a burlesque show is make or break for The Edison at all, but they must be paying boatloads to rent out the space. If I was paying out the a$$ for a space, i'd want to do things my way.
