Disney announces thirteen new tenants heading to Disney Springs

Agreed. I think people are expecting more out of Edison than they maybe should be. It all depends on how they decide to position Edison - as a restaurant, lounge or a hotspot...and unfortunately, this is a team that had a lot of trouble getting that right in LA. I think it's going to be tricky in Orlando, too.
If they are going to get it right in Orlando, at Disney anyway, they couldn't really have asked for a better location imo. They could go for an upscale lounge/restaurant mix and simply restrict the lounge to 21+ and only be open from, say 6-2? That's pretty much what STK is doing though so i'd prefer something different, something that has a real unique feel to it.

Haha, "Industrial Gothic"? So that is what we are calling it now that "Steampunk" is passé.

A nice, yet unremarkable announcement (excepting Edison). But they did already unload the big guns with STK and Morimoto's so a good start on the retail side. Especially when you throw in The Art of Shaving, etc. But I do think they may have another Ace up their sleeve on the retail side. Probably not Harrod's, but unique style things like Uniqlo.

DS is going to be a pretty cool Lifestyle Center.
Isn't the Lifestyle MO to loiter around and never actually buy anything? I can't imagine they'll get away with that in a place like Morimoto. The retail spaces, for sure.

In this case Lifestyle has a different meaning than "Lifestylers". Lifestyle Center is the new name in America for outdoor urban mall. But most of the Lifestylers will be camped out at Jock's discussing how the diving bell relates to Indiana Jones.

Don't understand why big chains such as Zara, UGG and L'occitane are needed...I don't know about in the US but in Europe these can be found extremely easily, I'm pretty sure there's a Zara in the Florida mall. We used to visit DTD for the somewhat 'unique' shopping experience :(

So basically I can now go to many of the stores that have been in NYC for over a decade in Disney Springs!!!

Yay!

Or I can still avoid that area when I go to Disney. And shop for the same merchandise at home without stuffing it in luggage then on a plane.

And hit up Morimoto 10 blocks from from home.

Ah the future is here just like Walt envisioned!
I always wonder with comments like this what you would have wanted as the shops? Legitimately curious.

Marketplace isn't changing and I'm pretty sure Harley, AMC, House of Blues, Sosa Cigar, former Wet Seal, World of Soccer and such are located everywhere else in the country? Town Center is an expansion so I guess if you don't care for those stores, the others you have grown to like are still there.

I suppose you could be mourning the loss of the magnet store?

Shops like these can be found around the U.S., but mostly in larger cities. I believe that I read an article saying that there are currently 52 Zara locations in the U.S. Living in a larger city, a Zara isn't something huge to me, I worked within a block of one for a few years. A vast majority of the land mass of the U.S. is not around urban areas though, so these stores would be fairly unique to a large percent of the population. I had never heard of the place before I spent some time in Washinton DC (and by the way, picked up a fantastic "enchanted Tiki Room" shirt there that is among my favorites).
Uniqlo is just now opening a store in Chicago, so that is one that will also be quite unique for most visiting families.

The idea that this whole shopping area was going to be filled with stores that exist nowhere in the world aside from Disney is one that would be nearly impossible to maintain. The stores you can only find at Disney will always be just the Disney owned ones like World of Disney, the Marketplace Co-op, Art of Disney, and things like this. The other stores are going to have to be ones with proven track records. The only thing worse than DS turning into another average mall, with a Claire's around every corner, would be for it to be filled with stores that are empty or closing every other month due to no one shopping in them.

All that's missing is an Apple Store and it'll be like every upscale mall/ major city in the country.

(And I love Apple products- I'm typing this on my iPad as a matter of fact)
It's my understanding that they are going to be putting in an Apple Store at Disney Springs. As a former cast member and in the area resident I think it's a good fit and something that's actually kind of needed in the area. It will cut my drive time down from an hour to about 20 minutes to get to an Apple Store. The two closest store right now or Brandon mall or Florida mall which is north of universal and closer to the airport than anything

If you've ever been to Florida Mall which has essentially all the same stores at malls all over the world you will see tourists from everywhere carrying around luggage suitcases so they can load up on products for cheaper than what they can buy back home. I think Disney is trying to use this same technique.

Ehh, I live in Orlando too, and the hassle that is parking and getting into DTD is far worse than the extra ten minutes I'd have to drive to get to Florida Mall.

I'm really getting tired of this mis information. Parking at disney springs is fine now that the Orange garage is open. The parking situation is 10 times better than florida mall's ever thought of being and there is another garage being built on the east side. There is absolutely no reason to avoid visiting disney springs because of the parking.

News flash. Not everyone lives in NYC. But hey at least you made the point that you are really cool

I think this may be my first post in the actual Disney Springs sub-forum. Do I get a free LE pin?

Two things: while it's a nice assortment of retailers and dining, the only one that jumps out at me at having the potential of being a 'it' place would be the Edison. And much of that depends of how Disney positions and markets the place. The rest are not special (and, please, save me the 'everyone' doesn't live near a major urban area where these BRANDS are ubiquitous ... because those people could largely visit the other top malls in Central Florida that have said locales).

And the other is why in the world (when you have such a stale product and never announce anything new) would you bury the news late on a Friday (where news still goes to die, even in the Twit Age)? This was actually some good news for the resort/project and I am quite sure they weren't waiting on 2-3 contracts yesterday to put this out. It almost assuredly could have been announced at their WWAAAAAAY KEWL Summer Blogger/Lifestyler event a few weeks back. And, if not, it could have gone out earlier this week.

Now, it will quietly die because all Disney news next week will be on Shanghai, Anaheim and Tomorrowland. No one except a few fans on sites like this will be talking about something called a ''cupcake ATM'' ...

A pretty good lineup coming together. I'm spoiled in Chicago, getting a lot of the shops here, but I'd say a great portion of the visiting population can't get to a Lilly Pulitzer easily.

And how many people go to WDW to do so? You have to be realistic about who's shopping there. And I was pondering with a friend from this very forum last night how long it would be before some of these locations close up shop due to the price of being a Disney tenant mixed with sales ...
