It does seem odd that he won't be showing up. I was looking forward to seeing him. He's really the only Disney Management person I know anything about and like. :) Plus, I love the AK! And he's very AKy. :)

But if Joe is busy, so be it.

My question would be busy with what? Hard to imagine him not being there for any reason. He had such an influence on all of AK, recognized by so many fans, is still with Disney and wont be showing up to the parks anniversary? Hopefully he's not busy updating his résumé

Wow. I think Joe not being at an anniversary event for his park is bigger news than his park having an anniversary event. It only raises more questions than answered.

Anyone have a guess why? @Lee ? @WDW1974?
Any guess....yeah.
If anyone has been keeping up, they know that Joe is said to be on thin ice as WDI looks to have its purge. Wouldn't surprise me (sadly) to hear an announcement...

The assumption has been that as long as Avatar was a go, Joe was safe. I've also heard of some creative tensions on that project, which leads me to believe that their fates aren't necessarily tied together.

We'll see soon enough....

Meaning they could build Avatar w/o Joe???
Sure.
I can hear it now...
Bruce: Can we do Avatar without Rohde?
Craig: Yeah, I guess...
Bruce: Excellent! Hey, Joe! Could you come into my office?
Maybe someone finally questioned him on not following the Disney handbook when it comes to piercings.
lol
They gave up on that long ago.

I'd like to see him stay at the AK. But he has to do what is right for him. I know he will be a success anywhere.

You've never seen a 15th anniversary celebration? It's not that unusual for every five years to be considered a milestone. For example, the overseas Disney parks all celebrated their 5th, 10th, etc. anniversaries.
If each of the WDW parks celebrates each 5-year increment anniversary, that means 8 celebrations every decade for the resort. (MK in 20x1 and 20x6, Epcot in 20x2 and 20x7, AK in 20x3 and 20x8, and DHS in 20x4 and 20x9.) Whew!

I didn't, and still don't, want to "like" this post.

Nor do I wanna believe what I read. Aaaaand I'm quite OK with living in denial over one of the most creative minds working at/for Disney being let go.

To be honest, my heart kinda sank when I read this. :(

I hope Universal offers him a deal he just can't pass up. And I hope he builds an incredible legacy for himself- outside of Disney's grip.
