Disney and Universal working on Marvel deal for Florida?

Are you kidding? Disney Park®'s MagicBandpowered by MyMagic+is the most magical attraction at any theme park!
LOL, now that is some funny stuff ;)

But in reality, WDW dusters want Marvel back in their hands in Orlando. And yet, they have super heroes already and aren't using them. What makes WDW dusters think Disney would suddenly use Marvel in WDW? They probably plop Iron Man on the new boxes sent out for Magic Bands and say SEE WE HAVE MARVEL IN WDW FOR YA!!! Then Lou and Ricky wax poetic about how awesome of a job WDW is doing using Marvel on the boxes for the Tragic Bands. Their minions decide, in honor of Marvel Cinematic Universe, they won't wash for the next 6 months (like that would be any different anyway!!!). Lou and Ricky brag how great it is to see Marvel finally being used to its utmost potential in Orlando, while dining on free meals at any WDW restaurant and getting free drinks at Trader Sam's. Ricky then does a video podcast, clutching his Hitchhiking Ghost plush and Lou shoves his microphone into the face of an unsuspecting college aged Cast Member asking how great does it feel knowing Marvel finally has a presence in WDW as the characters now appear on Tragic Band boxes, not in an attraction. The minions drop to their knees in worship... ALL HAIL RICKY AND LOU, AND WDW1974 CAN SO SCREW they chant in hypnotic tones. Jeff Lange, not to be outdone, videos himself opening a Tragic Band box with Marvel characters designs, then sells the video on his site for $15.99!!!! Oh wait, get the blu ray edition for the low low price of $25.99!!!!

Ok, yes, this thread has gone off the deep end. I vote to close it. :)

Fanbois, Universal is NEVER going to relinquish MARVEL Characters to WDW they got them too cheap (as in the time when you could not GIVE MARVEL stuff away) and they make lots of money on them, Plus Comcast enjoys watching Disney grovel for them. Don't forget that Comcast is 2X the size of Disney and is more evil than Iger's wildest dreams of evil.

Disney does all the heavy lifting for MARVEL and UNI rakes in the park bucks,

Disney is bigger than Comcast and both sides benefit from the deal.

I don't claim to be well versed in affairs of business, but I was considering total assets. Disney $84.186, Comcast $158.813.

Well by that metric banks would be the largest with trillions in assets. Comcast is not valued more than Disney. Disney's net income exceeds that of Comcast and Disney's return on assets is greater than Comcast.

There are many ways to value a company and currently Disney is valued higher than any other media conglomerate. Whether one chooses to agree with those valuations should be the basis of whether you should invest or not. At a basic level at least.

You're right, they don't need Marvel in WDW to give it some super heroes. They already have the Incredibles. And are doing NOTHING with them.

Well Eisner went out of his way to try and get The Incredibles to tank because of his feud with Pixar/Steve Jobs. Moved it to a November release when it was clearly something that would have killed as a summer movie.

Precisely the metric I was using

Book value of assets are not the same as real asset values. Ask Pof4 and he will tell you. There is no way The Walt Disney Companies total assets are only work 84.186 billion. Market cap is a much better method to determine what a company is worth and Disney is worth more than Universal.

This is so much fun to read, but I have a feeling it'll be even more fun to come back and re-read in August after Disney has that corporate seminar/press conference thing they do every 2 years... ya know the one they charge their fans an arm and a leg to get into

Hmm, well rumors are Hulk will close by HHN. So Universal announcing the move while Disney wallows away with nothing to announce at D23, meaning Universal steals Disney's thunder in Orlando again.

As I said earlier that isn't the whole story, by just judging assets of a company JPMorgan Chase could gobble up nations with their trillions of dollars worth of assets. However it's way more complex than that, take JPMC as an example, their assets arguably prevent them from making more profits in one line of thought. They are in a capital intensive business, just like Comcast is the largest cable provider with lots of valuable hard assets. Providing valuation to intangible assets such as IP for Disney won't stack up to the infrastructure that is required to run a cable company.

I fully expect Disney to have something to announce at D23 for Florida. It may only be Pixar stuff, but I think at the very least that will be announced. I would also expect more details on Avatar and Frozen. It will be interesting to see the reaction of the people in the Arena when they talk about Frozen in Norway... it may be in their best interest to not provide more details on it for fear of looking bad.

For California, I would expect their Marvel addition as well as Star Wars land to be announced.

The timing of the Marvel expansion announcement for IOA could coincide with D23, although Marvel IOA plusing may very well wind up being the Avatar "counter" in a very passive aggressive way.

I think the vibe will be nothing to worry about, like the general public it will more likely be in the vein of "Nice, they are putting Frozen in! I almost never went onto that weird ride in the first place," as opposed to the "OMG SKY IS LITERALLY FALLING! THIS IS THE RUINATION OF THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF EPCOT! THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!" style discussion had 'round these parts on it.
