Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

In actual movie news, there’s a slim ray of hope that Coyote vs Acme may actually see release - Ketchup is deep in talks with WB to acquire the film.
Just saw that cross my desk. So Day The Earth Blew Up must be been "good enough" returns for them. Just shows that a movie doesn't have to earn lots at the box office in order for it to be "worth it" to a studio or distributor.

To be honest with you, I really think its overblown what the average person thinks about her or anything she said. I honestly don't think the average person even knows who she is let alone cares about how much money she has or even what thought or opinion she has on anything. I think most worry about other things in their life than to care about a 23 year old actress starring in the next Disney film.
The problem with this statement is then why are you and many others here talking about all the hate she get from all over? If the majority have no clue about her, or the things she says, then why feed into the vocal internet minority? let the people who are going to be mad, be mad. It will then die off. Because if people really know as little about her as you say, it's going to have little to no sway on the boxoffice anyway.
We're not a good barometer of the "public" view here on this forum.
Absolutely we're not. I've said it many times.

I’m not sure how I’m jealous since my net worth is currently higher than hers, although that can quickly change since she does get payed large amounts per project.

Your net worth is calculated by deducting any liabilities. That means is someone has a net worth of 3 million they are wealthy, not just on paper.
Between the two of you (and despite your negative posting here about Disney), you have a better career prospects at TWDC of the two of you.

Well because its largely coming from an echo chamber that is fed by the media that keeps the story going. So it then gets inevitable discussed here, and rise and repeat. If it wasn't brought up so often here by those that think it'll have an impact then it wouldn't be discussed and would largely die off here.

Unfortunately too many think they are the "pulse" of the public, when in fact many are barely the "pulse" for their small circle if that. I've seen it range from everything from Parks to the MCU to even SW.

Possibly. But shelving Coyote was TREMENDOUSLY unpopular with a lot of powerful people in Hollywood. Acquiring and exhibiting it would earn huge amounts of good will, which might be worth the money for a distributor even if the box office is weak. The press coverage of the story would also earn a lot of positive PR for Ketchup even outside of Hollywood. Finally, when Zaslav falls (likely pretty soon) there’s a good chance his successor realizes how important the Looney Tunes brand is to WB - and guess who has a couple of high-profile pieces of content ready to license back to the studio.

No. No one wants to hear it from them either. The difference is most big wigs like that aren't in the public like most movie stars. And the ones like Bezos, Zuckerberg, Cuban, musk... They get it all the time as well.
That certainly has changed as CEO’s are most definitely voicing their opinions and more public then ever
As I said earlier. You sometimes have to separate the art from the artist. But most everyone has a line that can't be crossed. It might not bother you when celebrities say whatever pops in their head or insult half a country or tries to preach from the heavens how we need to live our lives. And that's fine. But that's not the case for a great many people. That's just the way it is. If you don't want the backlash, keep it to yourself.
You are correct it does not bother me…. One of the greatest aspects of this country is freedom of speech…. Which celebrities are entitled to just as much as the rest of us…. A few did cross the line for me But it is more from actions rather then speech…. Bryan Singer, Kevin Spacey, R Kelly, Mel Gibson…
Did anyone really think what she said after the election wasn't going to be a firestorm? If they didn't think it would, that's a bit naive.
The Rachel Zegler hate started before the election when certain angry ragers unearthed her comments about the original film…. As they searched for any controversy to disparage the film because someone thought Rachel did not have the right look… with by all the review blurbs so far she is the highlight of the film
Yes, and people have constantly complained about it. It's nothing new, I don't think I've ever said differently.
I apologize if that wasn’t you….I have seen a bunch of talk from posters who say they want to go back to a time when People did not know the politics of Hollywood celebrities…. I think that has largely been glamorized in their heads

I’m quite looking forward to the Lilo and Stitch movie. After that one? Sure.

But, does Disney replace the live action remakes with other films or just reduce their overall content slate?

Yeah, this is the real problem. They've been money spinners because the masses are not particularly discerning, so why would they have stopped?

If they were always going to do these, I'd much rather that they'd have expanded on the original films and spun them out into their own franchises (if the returns warranted it), like what they're doing with The Lion King (and I suppose previously with Sleeping Beauty/Maleficent). But now most of these one-and-done remakes were made so long ago (relatively speaking) that it would be hard to do that with many/any of them, even if they suddenly wanted to.

Generally speaking, Disney's live-action studio hasn't done wholly original properties in forever, so what sorts of legends/books/rides/historical figures would we want to see them bring to the big screen that we haven't seen them do before?

Maybe, but if it was still a viable popular franchise you'd think that WB themselves would have done something with it before even all this was happening.

I think just like Muppets, it has its fans, but not enough to be a huge draw anymore. But I guess we'll see what happens.

I don't think any of us can really say the percentage of people within the "fandom" that know or even care about any of it, let alone know that its a "ton". We take our own personal knowledge and biases on topics and think it applies to everyone, when it most cases it does not.

But yes I think many in the general public will just look at the trailers with their kids and decide whether it looks good enough to watch without ever knowing anything about any controversy.

And quite frankly, if a planned direct-to-streaming average-at-best movie like Moana 2 can be a huge hit, I wouldn't rule anything out.

Despite a few people claiming otherwise, I believe Snow White still has significant name recognition. Grumpy merchandise is still a big thing at the theme parks, last time I looked.

Zaslav is narcissistic, vindictive, and embattled. He came up with a (bad) plan for WB content and, in the face of a huge backlash to killing Coyote, doubled down by turning away several interested offers to buy the film lest its critical and/ or commercial success make him look bad.

This really is all due to one petty man.
