Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

A movie is such an easy thing to skip.

That’s why I don’t think it’s good idea to have actors and actresses attacking the fans.
She made a distasteful political post, retracted it, and apologized shortly thereafter. I genuinely don’t understand why this would be such a big deal to someone unless they have adopted a partisan identity and made politics a massive part of their life. The real problem here is the insane political tribalism in this country.

You’re a 45 year old male. You’re not exactly the target audience for this film. The film’s primary target audience is young girls and their mothers. Obviously it’s not a difficult movie for you to skip.

I’m not sure how I’m jealous since my net worth is currently higher than hers, although that can quickly change since she does get payed large amounts per project.

Your net worth is calculated by deducting any liabilities. That means is someone has a net worth of 3 million they are wealthy, not just on paper.
You are the only one in this thread focused on her money, no one but you brought it up in this entire discourse, and you brought it up multiple times. That comes across as jealous to me. I don't know your financial situation, just as you don't know mine. You seem to have a bad habit of assuming many things about people.

As for Zegler's net worth, we don't know where her actual finances are, we just know what is reported. So we don't know if she is liquid, has it tied up in real estate, or if all of it is before she pays out to managers, lawyers, publicists, etc.

Many athletes are said to have a net worth of many Millions, but its found out they are actually poor by many standards because of all the payouts they have to make to many people. Same goes for many in Hollywood.

So for all we know that $3M that is reported might just be way under $1M when is all said and done.

I’m not focused on her money.

Casper said she was powerless.

Money is a form of power.

I was just pointing out she is not powerless.

You're not helping your cause at all with that one. "A million is not as huge of a number as it used to be"? So what? What does that mean to the people who fall in the average income of 60 thousand dollars a year? 60k isn't what it once was either. It might not be as rare as it was but that would only be like 6%. So yea, the average person isn't going to sympathize with her when she is light years up the economic ladder.
To be honest with you, I really think its overblown what the average person thinks about her or anything she said. I honestly don't think the average person even knows who she is let alone cares about how much money she has or even what thought or opinion she has on anything. I think most worry about other things in their life than to care about a 23 year old actress starring in the next Disney film.

We're not a good barometer of the "public" view here on this forum.

I’m sure we can fix all the tribalism by wishing no peace on one another.

Except its not the first time you brought up her money during this whole discourse about her and this movie, and its only been you that has done it. No one else has discussed her money.

We fix tribalism by apologizing and taking accountability for mistakes such as the one you are referring too.

We fix tribalism by accepting those apologies and moving on.
Let’s find something we can all agree on regardless of ideology.

Disney should stop the live action remakes.

Can we find common ground here?

I’m quite looking forward to the Lilo and Stitch movie. After that one? Sure.

But, does Disney replace the live action remakes with other films or just reduce their overall content slate?
We did it, we agree!!

Maybe they can replace it with original content.

That would be welcome.

I agree that most average joes likely have no clue who she is, unfortunately it seems a ton of Disney and Snow White fans, the ones who are the target audience for the movie, are very aware of who she is and what she’s said. The knowledge of her controversies has expanded well beyond Disney circles to the point the vast majority of articles about Snow White now include the controversies.

Prior to Lilo and Stitch I would have completely agreed, I’m really looking forward to that one though.

Which she deserves, by the way. The star doesn’t mean anything beyond affirming that the recipient is a star, and Gadot is undeniably a star.
Again, I generally like Gadot and think she's a good Wonder Woman. I do not, however, think she has much range. She's more of a "movie star" than an actress IMO.

(to compare her to other Justice League members, I think similarly of Jason Momoa — good in specific roles, limited in range).

Yeah that’s already done though.

I’m talking new live action projects.

I don't think any of us can really say the percentage of people within the "fandom" that know or even care about any of it, let alone know that its a "ton". We take our own personal knowledge and biases on topics and think it applies to everyone, when it most cases it does not.

But yes I think many in the general public will just look at the trailers with their kids and decide whether it looks good enough to watch without ever knowing anything about any controversy.

I think it looks good, and think it more than any other non-Marvel/non-Avatar movie will get the most folks out this year.
