First, Zegler isn’t really “the weak” I’ve been talking about.
That aside, Zegler is exponentially weaker then several of the people leading the attacks against her. She is a 24-year-old up-and-coming actor. She’s not a CEO or a Senator.
Part of the issue here is the confusion of different kinds of power. Hollywood stars have a degree of cultural power, although less than some others like studio heads who tend to have very different political, economic, and social objectives. Those stars don’t have governmental or economic power, the kind of power that most directly and dramatically affects people. Cultural power is visible and glamorous, however, and confusing the different kinds of power and directing rage at those with cultural power benefits the holders of less ostentatious types of power. It’s also true that some economic and governmental power holders are genuinely jealous of cultural power and, despite their enormous ability to shape national affairs to their will, feel they are victims because the culture won’t similarly bend to their will and say nice things about them. This makes them angry, resentful, and vindictive and prone to inflating the significance of cultural power.
