Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Because as a lifelong Disney fan I care for the ongoing health of the company, including its flagship movie studios.

And the decision to re-release in 1,500+ theaters the 3 Pixar Covid era movies that have been available on Disney+ for years is a very odd financial decision. It's costing Disney money to pull off this Emeryville Morale Boost stunt, even without the marketing money they didn't spend on it.

And after the disastrous box office year they just had, losing over $1 Billion in 2023, the last thing they should be doing is kicking off 2024 by throwing more money away.

Pixar should just admit this re-release strategy was a mistake and forget about it. 1,560 theaters?!?

Also a lifelong Disney fan here... as I would assume most people who take the time to reply on these forums. I care about the "ongoing" health of the company as well, but neither you or I have any effect on decisions Disney decides to make regarding how/when they release films to the Box Office. I enjoyed Turning Red, as did many other people. Box office performance is not solely indicative of how a film was received. Especially since a film like Turning Red never had a proper theatrical release and this new one was barely marketed at all. None of the major studios have been completely profitable post Covid. Films are not doing as well as they once were because of the Studios/Hollywood's incessant need to embark upon the "Streaming Wars". Also D+ lost billions each quarter of 2023.... My point here, is that while we can discuss it here, the need to analyze every single detail of Disney's box office choices is a little ridiculous.

Or, you can go find a new film company to like since you have so much venom for Disney. Turning Red is 95% positive on Rotten Tomatoes and for good reason. Poor Things has won all sorts of awards and is on track to win some Oscars as well. All of Us Strangers is absolutely phenomenal and the reviews reflect it. You have seen NONE of these films and yet you feel qualified to blab endless negative commentary on them and the rest of the Disney films you have not seen. It is quite extraordinary.

I'm not posting commentary about the film's artistic merits in this thread, I'm posting factual box office data that speaks for itself.

If the box office data bothers you because it's so financially damaging to Disney, best to avoid the thread where we discuss Disney box office data and its meaning to the company's financial health and evolving relevance.

I have a few other points I could make about your Disney hatred, but I don’t intend on getting a ban because of it, and particularly not on my birthday.

How on earth does a grown man get banned from posting on a Disney fan website?

The mind boggles how that plays out.

But it would be quite refreshing if you would stop posting about films you haven’t even seen and have no intention of seeing.

I will continue posting box office results in the box office thread. I find the topic interesting now.

And after the disastrous year that 2023 was for all of Disney's studios (not a single studio made a profit), their retrenchment and thin release schedule for 2024 will be interesting to observe. They were supposed to be releasing Snow White next month, but Miss Zeigler's horrible instinct for PR put an end to that, and it got sent back for a major rework until 2025.

But, on the bright side, there is Planet Of The Apes in May. And it seems that might be a box office success? That would certainly be a change of pace compared to 2023, that's for sure!

There's even an entire website devoted to Disneyland's feral cats. So discussing box office data is practically normal.

I actually don’t think that thread makes any sense at all (and I barely post on it and wasn’t banned from it). So many posts have obviously been deleted that the whole conversation is utterly fractured and pointless.
