Indeed.

And this is why I think they wanted to see how the trial went before they made their final decision. I think they were probably going to do this regardless but they could have fired him after the ending of Loki 2 and just say that Kang's storyline wrapped up but they waited until he was found guilty and quickly pulled the trigger. Either way it is a good call because I don't think Kang's story resonated with fans like Thanos did and hopefully they don't pull a Terrance Howard and replace Majors with another actor.

Marvel could do the funniest thing ever by replacing him with Terrance Howard. Howard’s mind has developed a new method of math which enables him to move within the multiverse.

Oh, and Majors has been fired already.

Final box office is out for this past weekend, the kickoff to the Christmas vacation weeks.

Poor Things from Searchlight had a $35 Million budget?!? And it's bombed hugely. That will cost Disney another $30 Million or so for its Searchlight studio division.

Wish is down in 6th place, but still gets 3,100 theaters. The theater chains must hate that agreement.

That's what everyone was saying when the movie premiered at Sundance in January.

What happens to that movie now? Direct-to-streaming dump? It gets sold to another distributor? Locked in the vault?
ten days ago I said this was getting put in the vault next to Song of the South.

More likely, they decline their option on this (if they can?)

Poor Things is only playing in 21 cities, I believe, so can’t call it a bomb yet. They’re clearly hoping by the time the wide release happens that word will have spread this is your chance to see Emma Stone [redacted] and [redacted].

Next weekend's going to be really interesting. While a lot of people are still/will be busy with seasonal activities, Christmas does generally see an uptick in moviegoing. But while everyone's acting like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a big deal, I think WB gave up on that one a while back. There hasn't been much promotion for it at all from my perspective (we didn't even get the theatrical trailer until September! Meanwhile Dune Part Two just released a third trailer for next spring), and no wonder, they've got superhero burnout just as bad as Disney does if not worse.

No, WB's been leaning in on Wonka and to a lesser extent The Color Purple. People who like Wonka seem to really like it (I saw it on Thursday and was happy to eat my words over my initial doubts). And the positioning means that if the word-of-mouth is healthy, it can pay off ala Sing 2 or Puss in Boots - The Last Wish on Christmas weekend, and play into the new year. But with two big new titles, how big of a drop will it have in weekend 2?

Migration seems a bit up in the air so to speak. I guess the international box office has been decent so far but not a breakout, and as with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom the review embargo hasn't been lifted yet. If this is what families have been waiting for (Universal's marketed it fairly aggressively), an upset over Aquaman is possible.

As for Wish, Christmas weekend is its last hope for a decent take. Disney intended it to have an open-ended run, and I think it's too late now to announce a surprise Christmas Day drop on Disney+. (EDIT: Or maybe not - Trolls Band Together gets a digital release Tuesday, although that's not the same as streaming.) But there's just too much coming in to keep it around in theaters much longer when Migration and Wonka, even The Boy and the Heron are fresher and more specialty titles begin to trickle in with awards season. So I would not be surprised if we see a big ad push for Wish this week as a last-ditch measure on Disney's part.
They’ve been playing the Aqua Man trailer in NYC for months and months. It has been shown before almost every movie I’ve gone to, including Wonka (which is truly fantastic). Same with Migration. If I have to sit through that trailer one more time…..I’ll probably end up seeing both of them but the next one on our list is The Color Purple. Can’t wait.

Oh brother. Someone is calling Poor Things (one of the best reviewed films of the year and a major awards contender) a “bomb”? As you noted, it hasn’t even gone to wide release yet.

I would consider any movie that fails to break even a disappointment. I hadn't heard of Poor Things until about 20 minutes ago when I saw the weekend box office stats, but it will need to do at least $75 Million at the global box office to break even.

It will be tracked for Searchlight in our data here, not to worry. :)

At this point with it being 4 weeks in release, its clear theater owners want Wish still playing for the holidays versus being forced to have it playing.

FYI, Poor Things doesn't go to wide release domestically until this weekend and January 12th internationally. So it can hardly be called a bomb when it hasn't had its full release yet.

That would be funny and yes someone beat you to the news of his demise in the MCU.

1. It is only playing in 21 cities at this time.
2. It does not even go to wide release until December 22.
3. It is 93% (critics) positive and 95% (audience) positive on Rotten Tomatoes.
4. It is currently nominated for so many awards that I don’t have time to list all of them, but feel free to take a peek here: https://m.filmaffinity.com/en/movie-awards.php?movie-id=270023
5. It is a major Oscar contender.
6. It is NOT a bomb.
7. Back on ignore. Bye.

Wait, an "expert" on all things movies didn't know about Poor Things?? A movie that will most certainly be nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, and a slew of other categories. Oh brother!! 😂

Yes, they definitely were planning an escape route from him but this cements that the Kang experiment is over.
This is probably for the best, it wasn’t really connecting with audiences anyway. The multiverse and multiple Kangs was confusing and the story was a mess, maybe it would have come together in the end but by then there wouldn’t have been anyone in the theaters to see it.

I totally agree with you that it didn’t connect with fans and that it was very confusing.
