"New" films from Disney...

Keep in mind that with Onward and onward until 2023, movies were more likely to be put on D+ than a theatrical run.

Hoppers (Mar 2026)
Gatto (Jun 2027)
Elio
Young Woman and the Sea
Blink
The Beach Boys
Onward
Wish
Soul
Luca
Turning Red
Elemental
Strange World

In this same time frame, Searchlight and 20th Century each put out twenty movies with an original story. And some of their movies were straight to streaming.

That's about 50 originals in 5 years.

That article to me doesn’t entirely seem like it’s lamenting Star Wars and Marvel.

Rather that it’s lamenting Pirates and Indy, that don’t seem like it made the transition to Gen Z (it didnt). Almost reads to me like they are looking for their own One Piece.

In all seriousness though this is abject nonsense. What about Disney’s content the last few years was inherently unappealing to young men?
Well ultimately that is the question that Disney appears to be asking itself if the article is to be believed. And I have no reason to doubt it given some of the demographics we've seen over the last 5ish years that are watching Disney male driven content.

To me I would say the GenZ male demographic is mostly focused on gaming, and to a lesser extent some of the newer franchises (One Piece was mentioned) rather than the older franchises like Star Wars and Marvel. So the idea of trying to find Disney's version of a One Piece or similar franchise that they can aim toward GenZ is probably a good thing.

Confirmed: Smellio - the story of a young boy with an eye patch who never leaves the sofa in his mom’s basement, and only has relationships via group gaming, well into his 30’s.

Shot entirely in one basement with a budget of $900.

So two actors "went at each other" on the set of a movie, is this a day that ends in "Y"?

This isn't an unusual thing in Hollywood. There is always some drama on-set during almost every production from almost every studio. Someone storms off, cools down, and shooting resumes. Almost never really affects production beyond losing a couple hours at most. And the fact this article states that everything is fine now and everyone moved on shows how much of a big nothing burger this is and how people are just looking for something to talk about. Could it have caused more of an issue, sure, but it didn't. So no there is no production issue here.

It doesn’t happen to Alan . First, he seems to be a lovely person. Second, he’s filming his scenes alone in front of green screen for actors and/or dialogue to be added later.

And? How is that an "issue"? Or even related to the "fight" that you posted an article about?

Also if you read the article he also said he found the whole experience rather "really healing" compared to his time on X2.

You're reading too much into this and trying to find smoke to say there is "fire" there to point to it being a "troubled" production, but so far there is not even any smoke.

There’s already reports that the production has been extended a month for reshoots/additional photography. Some of the principal cast have admitted the script isn’t done and this report suggests even more mid-production changes. Perhaps it will turn out well! We’ll see with the final product!

Ok, well the script thing about "not being finished" has been the norm in MCU since the beginning in 2008 with Iron Man. Favreau and RDJ were rewriting the script on the fly. Should it not be that way and should they have a completed script, sure. But this has been how even the second highest grossing movie of all time, Endgame, was done. And guess who is doing this movie, the Russo's, same as Endgame. So I trust their process.

As for the reshoots, ok. But as has been discussed here many many many times, reshoots are a normal part of most Hollywood productions. So it never really concerns me that much when they are brought up. But I can see why someone would see it as an "issue", or what someone else called a "red flag". So yeah we'll see how that affects things. But it doesn't mean this is a "troubled production" as you're trying to indicate.

Yikes. As a 50+ I’m not the target demographic anymore but that is a weak lineup all around.

Really? I think some of these movies are made to appeal to the 50+ demo. Spinal Tap 2 is a sequel to a 1980s movie, Downtown Abbey, and a movie based on Springsteen all skew older. Tron is a continuation in the trilogy that started in the 1980s as well. Then some others like OBAA have wide appeal.
