Disney acquires rights to 'Indiana Jones' Franchise. The implications for WDW?

Maybe they can pass the Indy type character off to indy's son or something to keep these movies going lol

The only problem I have personally with someone else carrying on his adventures is the period in which it takes place. The early films took place in the mid to late 30's and lends itself to the kind of "pulp" adventure that Lucas enjoyed himself as a kid. The time when the world was still big and vast areas were still unmapped and unknown lends itself to a certain mystery and a lot more "what if?" type scenarios. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. If Indy is still going to be Harrison Ford Indy we are now looking into the the 1960's. Not nearly as adventuress as the 30's/40's that the original 3 were able to take place in.

Well, there was adventure, just a very different sort of adventure. You'll notice that the comic book heroes of that time were often test pilots, race car drivers, astronauts, or scientists.

Amazing that nobody picked up on this. Very cool news from the Empress. Thank you Miss Lilly!
Maybe because they realise that it came to me as the end result of the Chinese Whisper game. I'm sure you've done it in school, one kid whispers something in the ear of the kid next to him, who whispers it to the next kid, etc. The quality of the passed on information at the end station is, erm, not guaranteed. Although I will not discard it outright!

Lilly is Mrs. Disney, Lillian Disney. Walt's beloved wife. She had a gorgeous WDW paddlewheel steamboat named after her. I am named after this boat (see my avatar), to protest its vandalization, but I am not a miss, nor named Lilly, nor a boat. ;)
I did not occur to me that people can not easily refer to me. Maybe I should get a nickname. Like, 'the ghost'. Then I can share ghostly musings! :geek:

They do seems to have more then enough IP's, The hard part seems to be getting Iger and his bean counters to commit to WDW major attractions.

honestly, at this point.... It seems Iger wants to become a "patent troll" but of copyrighted stuff.
Aka own almost every franchise IP and charge for repeats...shows..etc.. (aka milking current cows without investing more)

Dreamworks Animation did the same thing by buying out Classic Media, itself a patent troll compay, presumably to better stabilize themselves considering the financial troubles of Turbo and Guardians.

I don't think owning a lot of copyrighted fiction and being a patent troll are really analogous.
If Disney were making their Star Wars money by suing, say, the producers of Battlestar Galactica, or Mass Effect or something, it might be closer.
It's not as if Disney hasn't publicly announced that they plan on producing new Star Wars movies and shows.

I am sure Iger will buy more IP before he leaves but what next? and i think all that is going to happen with Indy is probs just going to get an animated TV show!

Cesar, that may very well be the story in a nut shell.

AKK!

It's not analogous at all. Patent trolls preemptively patent something with no intent on doing anything with it except try to cash in on people who's hard work bears even the slightly resemblance to the patented idea.

Meanwhile, since the Lucasfilm buy, Disney has already announced two projects in development- Episode VII and the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. For Marvel, there's obviously the live-action films, several animated series, guest spots on Phineas & Ferb, AND Marvel's Big Hero 6 is going to be the 54th animated feature from Walt Disney Animated Studios. And the deal with Paramount covers future movies; as of right now, it doesn't appear that Disney is getting anything from the previous movies, like if Paramount were to release a new collector's box set.

To say that Disney is buying properties to merely cash in on previous work is grossly inaccurate.

I was mentioning regarding stuff like Indy, where there doesn't seem to be a confirmed project.(other than secure the rights to the IP)

Even if there are no movies or animated projects coming, that still leaves things like comics and graphic novels, video games, and other things. Disney has bought properties the past decade, but they HAVE invested in those properties to bring new projects. Granted, sometimes it takes a while before the ball really gets rolling (the Muppets), but to those who are saying that Disney doesn't invest in the IPs they've acquired, I think that's just flat-out wrong. They're doing more with the new properties than they are with stuff they developed in-house (*sniff* Gargoyles *sniff).

MiB 3 did an excellent job of the 60s actually lol. I actually truly enjoyed the last Men In Black... I bring this up because there could still be a solid plot in the 60s setting. However, this is Hollywood they could just do whatever they want haha.

The next acquisition should be DreamWorks for the talent they have. Namely a man by the name of Jeffery Katzenberg. Though his philosophy of how to run the movie segment would clash with Bob's philosophy IMO.
