Disney is going to buy it's way into bankruptcy.
Ummmm no...they will get there money back from movies and tv. They may do (or not do) some things in the park that make you scratch your head, but Star Wars alone will cover these acquisitions and honestly even if the movie is terrible like crystal skull I'm still going to see Indy just out of curiosity as I'm sure millions of others would as well(idc if HF has to use a walker I'm watching haha)

It's not analogous at all. Patent trolls preemptively patent something with no intent on doing anything with it except try to cash in on people who's hard work bears even the slightly resemblance to the patented idea.

Meanwhile, since the Lucasfilm buy, Disney has already announced two projects in development- Episode VII and the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. For Marvel, there's obviously the live-action films, several animated series, guest spots on Phineas & Ferb, AND Marvel's Big Hero 6 is going to be the 54th animated feature from Walt Disney Animated Studios. And the deal with Paramount covers future movies; as of right now, it doesn't appear that Disney is getting anything from the previous movies, like if Paramount were to release a new collector's box set.

To say that Disney is buying properties to merely cash in on previous work is grossly inaccurate.
Agree 100% well said!

Again, this is not news and has nothing to do with the parks. Disney bought the IP when they bought Lucasfilm and have had the theme park rights for decades.
Boo to you! This is great news that can prove very relative to the parks in the near future!

To the OP, thank you!

They already owned Indiana Jones; this purchase just got them the ability to distribute new films without Paramount's involvement. This has absolutely nothing to do with the parks.
It certainly does! It means they have the rights to make attractions based on future films without Paramount's involvement!

Or if bankruptcy is on sale. Or if they wait until Black Friday next year and go bankrupt for a 60% discount, they can turn around and make a 40% profit, and possibly use that savings to build an Indiana Jones E-ticket ride a DHS!

I am sure Iger will buy more IP before he leaves but what next? and i think all that is going to happen with Indy is probs just going to get an animated TV show!
It will be Avatar, no doubt. He already started the process with the theme park rights.
