Disney acquires rights to 'Indiana Jones' Franchise. The implications for WDW?

It will be Avatar, no doubt. He already started the process with the theme park rights.

You clearly don't know how IP works. Avatar is not a singular entity that can be purchased by Disney; it's a joint IP between Cameron (Lightship Entertainment) and 20th Century Fox, and Cameron does not need to sell to Disney, nor will he. He will remain independent because he's James Effing Cameron.

And secondly, Paramount had nothing to do with the previous attractions; they were joint ventures between Lucasfilm and Disney. Indiana Jones is wholly owned by Lucasfilm, and has been wholly owned by Disney since it was purchased in 2012. This deal is ONLY to buy out distribution rights of previous FILMS and future FILMS, similar to what Disney did with the Marvel films, again with Paramount. Please study up on how the entertainment industry works before telling other people they don't know what they're talking about.

This has NOTHING to do with the parks. Future films MIGHT have something to do with the parks, but that is conjecture on a level that surpasses even the wildest of rumors.

Again. Films. Not parks.

I was kidding! (About Avatar)

But if Iger was smart, he would secure the distribution and park rights for Battle Angel from Light Storm. (Which, I predict will be a bigger hit than Avatar and anything in the Avatar franchise)

If an IJ attraction were to come to WDW, I'd prefer DHS or MK. I guess you could make a singular story revolving around something animal related for DAK, but it just fits a lot better in the other two IMO

Marvel's the only example of such a purchase. Pixar and Lucasfilm were basically putting rings on relationships that were already there.

Yeah, when some people were going "WHAT?!?" last year, I'd just point out, "You realize that George Lucas has had a very good working relationship with the company for almost 3 decades, yes?"

Actually this deal does NOT give them distribution rights to the first four films, Paramount is retaining that.

Maybe for now, but if Disney releases a 5th Indy movie and its a huge hit, I can see that changing.

Why would that change anything? Star Wars VII is going to be a monstrous hit - it's as close to a guaranteed billion gross as it gets - and they still are dragging their feet on parks attractions.

My take is that there will be new movies but that's about it. Maybe a new show OR perhaps they might add a ride but I doubt it. Star Wars is a different and much large beast completely and worthy of a whole land.

My threads are for discussions of LONG TERM implications. Everybody already knows Disney is doing nothing in the next five years in orlando.

No need to be jelly that this thread has 6 pages of meaningful on topic discussion and your threads instantly devolve into 50 pages of nonsense :p
Ouch! That was what the kids say today a burn.

I don't think this will effect the parks at all, ever.

But a working business relationship between Disney and Paramount opens the door for some rather huge things in the world of cinema, which could be Avengers and X-Men, which will of course threaten all time box office records. Downey Jr and Jackman. Think about it.

Jimmy Thick- Plus a new Indy film is always welcome.

If the X-Men rights weren't owned by Fox instead of Paramount
