Disney acquires rights to 'Indiana Jones' Franchise. The implications for WDW?

Again, this is not news and has nothing to do with the parks. Disney bought the IP when they bought Lucasfilm and have had the theme park rights for decades.
It has something to do with the parks if you connect enough dots in just the right way. If they bother to make this deal, then they have some kind of movie plans for Indy. If there's a movie or movies coming, TWDC is more likely to have a tie-in in the parks.

Well, they owned the franchise already when they bought Lucasfilm. This is more like the deal they made with Paramount regarding the Marvel movies.

Anyway, I LOVE the Indy franchise, specifically Raiders and Last Crusade (it's was a crime that Connery didn't get a Best Supporting Actor nomination for that movie).

The only downside is that I'm going to miss the transition from the Paramount Logo to something in the film, as that was always cool (and you'll notice that Joss Whedon paid homage to that with the opening to Serenity). I would hope that if an Indy five comes, they do something similar with the Disney castle cutting to an old castle that Indy is exploring.

By the same token, if Disney purchased the distribution rights of Star Wars, I would miss the 20th Century Fox fanfare. I can't imagine a SW movie without it.

Before people say HF is too old to continue the franchise might I suggest it is past time to consider potentially rendering the character virtually at some point with Ford possibly doing the voice work. The technology is surely now available to make it happen. Just a thought.

I predict the stunt show will close and IJ will return in new and unexpected ways. My guess is either at the MK or DAK.

Couldn't be more pleased. :)
Yes, they have done it with Audrey Hepburn already, although she doesn't speak.

Well the good news as far as I can tell is that this tentatively opens the door for more IJ films. Let's hope so!

I love IJ. He's one of the few action heroes I can stomach. I believe that during the Lucasfim take-over Iger said that there were no plans for further IJ development. Maybe there is some movement after all.

Not MK but I could see this in AK. Maybe dinoland would be redone into something else and dinosaur would become an indy ride?
I could see them do it too. Out with the forgotten Dinosaur movie, to turn Dinoland into IJ land, with Pixar dino thrown in for good measure. DAK as the fourth Disney movie park.

This on top of the Lion King expansion of Africa all the way to Avatarland. (You read it here first)

Mind boggling to think of the movie stars and historical figures they will be able to bring back and the stories that could be imagined with the new technology. Endless possibilities. Unfortunately some will try to use it to rewrite history with evil intentions. But we are ahead of that wave now for the most part. So they are warned.

And I am always watching. o_O

Cool video. Thanks.

I don't think this will effect the parks at all, ever.

But a working business relationship between Disney and Paramount opens the door for some rather huge things in the world of cinema, which could be Avengers and X-Men, which will of course threaten all time box office records. Downey Jr and Jackman. Think about it.

Jimmy Thick- Plus a new Indy film is always welcome.

Um...X-Men are at Fox. With this deal, Paramount's involvement in any Disney/Marvel/Lucas IP is totally kaput. All that's left are X-Men at Fox and Spidey at Sony.

From Variety:

Per IGN:
"Over the summer, Harrison Ford indicated that he was still up for donning the fedora once more, and a more recent rumor said that part of Ford’s deal to return as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII involved getting a commitment from Lucasfilm and Disney that a fifth Indiana Jones movie would be developed."

Since it looks like Iger is planning to give the Indiana Jones franchise a big push like he is doing with Marvel and Star Wars could this throw a monkey wrench in already existing proposals for WDW particularly the MGM Studios park? We know that over the years various Indiana Jones proposals were considered could something be green lit to tie into an Indiana Jones V?

So does this news mean that Indiana Jones 5 is actually happening? Over the summer, Harrison Ford indicated that he was still up for donning the fedora once more, and a more recent rumor said that part of Ford’s deal to return as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII involved getting a commitment from Lucasfilm and Disney that a fifth Indiana Jones movie would be developed.
so.. ford was saying the truth when he got a 1000$ bill from Conan O Brian and then said "I heard they're making another one".

You're forgetting Fantastic Four at Fox (though they need to hurry or the rights go back to Disney/ Marvel) and Namor, whose film rights apparently rest with Universal.

From what I've read, Disney didn't buy anything today. No money changed hands.

They didn't buy anything but rather forfeited the distribution rights to the first 4 Indy films and any profits made from those films. Kind of a bad deal if you ask me. Will the new Indy movies be a clean break from the old ones and if not will they be able to come up with a deal to release boxsets? Seems like they are giving up too much value

Disney did not forfeit any rights to the four films.
When Disney acquired Lucasfilm last year, Paramount owned those distribution rights.
At no point did they belong to Disney so they couldn't give them up.

One Little Spark...
What is it with everyone wanting Indy in DAK? NO!
If it goes in to any park in WDW, it better either be DHS or MK. DAK is an ANIMAL theme park. What does Indy have to do with animals? He's an archaeologist who hates snakes. That's it. No DAK for you Dr Jones!
So, how do you feel about Avatar going in there?
