Never said any of that…I have at times called people out who said hateful things…which I have seen multiple times… but I have never seen you be hateful…. So I am wondering were you get this from…. Of course. we are all able to have opinions…as all film is subjective
I retract…it wasn’t you…it was 2 others

My apologies…not trying to smear you…just pooched that one

The point being is its doing much better than any of us predicted. We'll see if it hits its breakeven point, but so far its performing above any of our expectations.

Since when did possibly losing 100's of millions of dollars become a success??? That sounds like delusions of grandeur. If it gets less than 600 million than it's a flop. No matter how you make up the numbers.

Please find where I said it was going to be a success? All I said was it was performing better than any of us had predicted, that does not equal success. I'm already on record saying that I think it'll lose money.

Also I'm not making up numbers, so please take that nonsense somewhere else. I swear some of you are so blinded by your hatred for anything Disney does these days that you can't even read posts properly and think someone is saying something when they are not.

We’ll know by Sunday…

It will have to do really well over the holiday week

Very little buzz for this
It is doing very well over the holiday. Over performing initial early estimates actually. Coming in at a hefty #1.

It’s 5-day holiday weekend projections domestically ($58 million weekend by the looks of it right now) and internationally have it on track for a $650+ million finish at the end of it’s run. It could in theory collapse after this weekend but with a fairly wide open January it doesn’t seem likely. It’s not impressively leggy or setting records or anything, but all signs currently point to it turning a profit theatrically, even if a soft one.

I will say, there is buzz among the family crowds. We’re just not seeing it online. In online spaces its as unpopular as ever. But I can tell you based on my own personal view of families at theaters and from my friends who work at theaters in multiple states, families are coming out and enjoying it. They’re just not rushing to post about it or drop a review on Letterboxd or Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s much like the 2019 film in that way. Deeply divisive online but in person most families are having an okay time.

It’s funny… now that is having some good numbers, I’m seeing the engagement change and more positive replies to the twitter posts re: Mufasa. Guess the bots change their opinions based on perceived success…

this is the most interesting time to watch the box office……as you can never tell which films are going to succeed in just one opening weekend….I remember when everyone was proclaiming Avatar was a failure in it’s opening weekend a couple yea ago

Mufasa has been out since December 18th in some countries. Plus Disney has it in more theaters and bigger theaters domestically. There's definitely some major backdoor deals or threats going on.

"If you want Avatar 3 you have to put Mufasa in more theaters."

And they’re currently on track to do that.

If Disney's not fudging the numbers and they get 600. That is only a breakeven amount. There's no reason for any Pixie Dusters to celebrate if they hit it. Last time I checked they're running a business that wants to make money. ... Or at least they wanted to in the past. Iger seems like lately (the past 6 or 7 years) he's just wanted a pat on the back.

Most movies continue to make money past their theatrical window. If a movie 'breaks even' in pay1, pay2-5 will be all profit.

Very true. It all feeds into a larger ecosystem.

Paying off the movie in pay1 is sometimes all a studio can hope for, of course they all want more, but they do have ways to leverage the product down the road for profit.

Hollywood likely has more flops than huge profit makers. (I don’t know the stats)
