Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

This weekend yes…. We will see how the final tally is… I suspect Sonic is more front loaded then Mufasa and Mufasa will be more of the type of film the entire family will agree on over the holidays

Mufasa is already showing to have better holds then Sonic…. Mufasa 7 million to Sonic’s 9 million… after the latter double what the former made over the weekend

Note that I still think Mufasa will be a huge disappointment when compared to The (2019) Lion King
Mufasa is fine but Sonic is great movie.

Sonic is guaranteed to make money, it only cost 122M to make and it’s already made 60M and it’s not even released internationally yet.

My hope is that Mufasa breaks even at the box office, it needs about 600M.

To be honest, I kind of knew that Mufasa will be a flop. I think Disney should be better off not doing anymore live action remakes. It's hurting the animated movie classics. It's kind of like DIsney is trying to replace the animated classics to live action remakes. But that's just me, though.

I don’t think it will flop.

But it might be a profitable underperformer.

Anyone else think a Simba movie would've been more successful? For most people Simba is the heart of Lion King. I'll still see Mufasa, but I'm a big Disney fan.

This isn't a remake though. It's a new story/movie.

It was a bad idea and looks like a failure…

…is that back on course for you?
Have you seen Mufasa? Its actually pretty good overall. As for whether it'll be a failure, I'm already on record as saying I think it'll lose money. However after the better than expected box office over the last couple days and possibly into the weekend it may end up coming close to breaking even if not turning a profit, we'll see what the final tally is.

Losing money is a failure…so we are in agreement. No need to debate that one.

I am a multi (too many) decade Disney loyalist and armchair analyst/historian…and I never had a desire to see Mufasa. That should tell you a lot. Truth be told…these live actions are the Eisner era vhs cheapquels under a different skin. No creativity…just trying to score a one off check.

Nothing is more anti-Disney legacy than that when you boil it down.

And now we see some notable indifference/rejections of them. That will increase. We have another coming soon.

I don’t celebrate these failures…but there is an alternative other than to cheer them. Disney has moved a lot of its customers for its franchises into “the mushy middle”

That’s my stance…without highlighting the “ugly” realities on this one as we have with others in the past.

So you didn’t see it, got it, long winded way to say no.

As for the rest, you’re on record on many of these threads saying pretty much the same thing, so nothing new there.

The live-action era will likely come to an end soon enough, no reason to belabor the point.

Yeah…it’s been awhile…but we all heard this tactic in 2023. And it didn’t work. Me going or not doesn’t change the trajectory, success or failure for TWDC. It’s all dollars. Go ahead and call me a bigot - or whatever - to make excuses for “the company”

Indeed…let me know when the record is “wrong”?

How many are on deck from the master of reboots and sequels?

I was just asking if you saw it, I wasn't trying any tactic. Stop putting words in my post that don't exist.

Also where do you get the idea that I was going to bring up bigotry, I never did that in ANY post in any thread here. So again stop with that.

Also I'm not making excuses for anything, again I was just asking if you saw it to get your opinion on the movie itself not the trajectory of the box office. Again I'm already on record as say I think it'll lose money, so who are you fighting here? Stop having conversations in your head that don't exist here in the threads, you'll be better off.

Indeed…let me know when the record is “wrong”?
Again you're having a conversation in your head that doesn't exist here in the threads, don't know if you're confusing me for someone else or what.

How many are on deck from the master of reboots and sequels?
Only 3 more have been given a release date, Snow White, Lilo and Moana. No others have officially been given a release date or green lit, ie they are in development hell. Tangled is the only one that I believe has gone the farthest into development.

So as I said the live-action era is likely coming to an end soon enough.

to be fair…it wasn’t you that used the tactic…but you were posting in the melees.

See: Box office thread - hundred pages

Oh…again…that happened constantly…no pass for “ignorance”

We’ll see how long the next contract extension is for? 😎

How about instead of responding to grudges from other posters in others threads that have nothing to do with me and this thread, you just stick to the conversation we're having here.

Also I would appreciate it if you didn't lump me in with the posters you have this grudge with. Again stop having conversations in your head that don't exist here or include me.

It’s festivus…grievances must be aired

(I feel so honored that easily offended are so hanging on my words this evening…not you, Irish)

I lament that Mufasa was made…it’s lazy and terrible strategy. Reminds me of a 2023 release

Here Endeth my diatribe
