I'm gonna be so out of the loop when I get back...

Nah, you will be fine....same ol' stuff:

1. Jaydarknight (or some reincarnation) still posts about Indy
2. People still complain about the little things.
3. People still take offense to constructive criticism.
4. We still want all the classic attractions and the new ones too!
5. Some still want the wand at Epcot and hat at the studios removed, some still like it.
6. And the list could go on, and on, and on....and it does.
7. Oh, and people still dont understand that certain threads go in certain forums.....

These threads are so redundant and inane when it comes to "let's not hurt each others feelings; this is a message board" rant. Who cares if someone gets offended because they have poor grammar and spelling? Why should I have to respond or ignore the same thread every couple of weeks when someone else has all ready created the exact same thread two weeks ago? Just do a search on the message board and the subject that you're looking for will pop up, instead of creating another thread about it. And if someone get so offended by what a complete stranger has to say on a message board (a Disney message board; out of all places), than you have a serious low self-esteem issue. But until than, if someone is offended by this post, please view the link below.

I gruntled a few minutes ago (not enough fiber yesterday I guess)

I guess that means that I am currently "post-gruntle"

I think I just gruntled myself when I fell out of my chair laughing.... :lookaroun

I didn't want to start off on the BAD foot, but I also don't understand why some of you guys think this is an online snooty country club, where I must impress you with the level of my posts and how many I have posted. And now, you are having fun telling me "I won't last long here"...

Uh...it may have something to do with the fact that you started a thread attacking people for their posting habits? I dunno...maybe? And when people feel like they're being attacked, the first thing they usually do is try to defend themselves? Somebody helped me out, I failed Basic Psych.

Dude (or Dude-ette, if you prefer), you started off on the offense, and now you learn that if you attack, not everyone's gonna be cool about it. Take comfort in the fact that some people agree with what you said, even if they don't necessarily agree with how you said it.

For all the little -sessions that go on around here, this is one of the most benign message boards I've ever seen. Those of you who get your feathers ruffled here would have a nervous breakdown in any other web forum. But if you really feel like you're being unfairly attacked, do yourself a favor: If you have some overwhelming desire to defend someone, do it in the thread where they're being "attacked." Then it's in context, and everyone will know where you're coming from. To start a new thread makes it sound like you're trying to pick a fight (as evidenced by the eleventy-seven-hundred posts on this thread), and nobody's happy.

Does this make eleventy-seven-hundred and one?

As one of the original members of this forum..i guess I fall into this supposid "club" you refer to...

I have severly limited my posting in the forum mostly due to newer members coming on here and doing exactly what you yourself (a new member none the less) have been shunning. By implying that these are actions of a particular group of people, you have obviously not read enough on here.

Hey NowInc. :) Nice to meet ya.

While I don't think it was the best introduction for the OP to start her career here - she has a point.

However, it's certainly not even a majority of people. I also don't believe she was talking about yourself or anyone just because they have a large amount of posts, or have been here a certain length of time.

I believe she is referring to the handful of posters who consistently post derogatory comments to people they feel aren't as versed in Disney as they are, or just people who constantly post pithy remarks just to "show people up" or even those that seem to think that if you don't agree with them you just don't "get it" and try to ostracize members who dare question their "authority".

As slappy pointed out above, this is pretty typical for most message boards, unfortunately - but it's a shame that one with such a concentrated community as this, dedicated to the Happiest Place on Earth, that this behavior is still with us. The average intelligence level of posters here is extraordinary compared to the rest of the Internet - I can only imagine what kinds of conversations would develop if there weren't a certain handful of people lording themselves over others and stifling the boards on many occasions.

There are also some people who come here to work out whatever personal issues they have; I've actually been accused of that myself by some of the posters in question when I've responded to some of the abusive and/or obnoxious behavior that somehow is tolerated from some members of this board (for whatever reason without recourse). It's created a culture at WDWMagic that definately has a negative, opposite-of-Disney feeling when some of these people post. People who complain about this are told they have an "axe to grind", which just exasperates the problem because even members who don't exhibit ANY of this behavior will jump in to defend the board in general when they feel a derogatory statement has been made (even if it was made to someone who is an example of this behavior).

For my part, I've largely learned to ignore these people lately - I only actually use the ignore feature as a last resort, but I have had to use it a few times lately. I can freely admit I have a particular problem personally with people who exhibit the behaviors discussed above who try to make others feel bad (or themselves feel better by doing so), but I have come to realize that I don't want that to color my Disney experience any more than it has to. I'm sure I won't always be able to resist when I see these abuses taking place (especially since they seem to repeatedly, reliably come from the same few members but nothing is done about it), but I do try. I've enjoyed WDWMagic much more since I've been working towards making this philosophy part of my WDWMagic attitude.

In a long winded way, I'm trying to say that while I don't think the OP was terribly tactful in her initial presentation and impression to the boards, she does have a point that is so often dismissed as "an axe to grind" or even something as silly as accusing people of being "jealous" of premium members. The problem goes much deeper than that - but since there seems no one besides fellow posters who attempt to correct this behavior it's just a fact of the culture of WDWMagic that most of us have learned to live with. This behavior has been tolerated for a long time, and when other posters attempt to point it out more mud is slung and more negativity is created defeating the whole purpose.

It's a shame, because while these boards are relatively active with the regular posters, there are so many more people out there (either experienced like yourself or entirely new) who don't post because this behavior has become a part of life at WDWMagic and it sometimes takes an "outsider" to point it out. You can only hear "I don't post there because of the way some people behave and try to ruin it for everyone else" so many times before you have to admit that the problem exists - even some members who exhibit NONE of this bad, constant beavior refuse to acknowledge it for whatever reason.

So again, NowInc, I don't think the OP was talking about you - or the majority of people who post here - in her posting, it's just a handful of very vocal posters who are continually allowed to overstep their bounds without reprimand. It's just something people learn to either ignore, deal with, or leave (as you did). It's a shame, because we all loose out when something like this becomes part of the culture of a community such as WDWMagic, but unfortunately there isn't much we can do. However, I do encourage you to post more - the more positive* faces we have here, the less effect the vocal minority will have on the image of this board. That's the only thing people can do.

I'm sure someone (or someones) will read through this, pick out one sentance, take it out of context and accuse me of insulting the WDWMagic community - completely ignoring the fact that I have repeatedly said only a handfull of posters represent this problem - it's happened before, which is why I waited so long to reply to this thread. After awhile you realize that it is just these select people who get away with this behavior all the time - but I can't help but understand why someone newer to these boards wouldn't see how it is these same few people repeatedly, and not nearly everyone (or even a majority) who does post here. 90% of the people who post here are wonderful, considerate people - which is why many of us stay in spite of those small handfull of people who make such spectacles of themselves and make their numbers appear stronger than they actually are.

AEfx

*by "positive" I do not mean being "happy happy joy joy" or agreeing with everything everyone says, or Disney does - simply people who CONSTANTLY post in snippy, bickering, or "just for the sake of being rude" more than actual content or reactions. Everyone has bad days, but some people seem to have these bad days every day...

AEfx... why don't you just type that post up once and link it into all these threads. You post the same thing in every thread where someone starts pouting about whatever. Just because some people complain doesn't make your tired argument any truer.

What gets me is that you have attacked Steve and the other mods in that post several times. What gives YOU the right to question their ability to take care of this board? Just take care of yourself and they'll take care of the board. I'm sure they don't need your input on how things are run.

I actually am a member of many different message boards on the 'net. There are some mom groups that are real supportive, and then there is one that is super b!tchy! That is fine it gives me a place to do that. I LIKE having a place to do that. BUT I don't really think that kind of behavior really belongs here, mostly because I have seen many "kids" on here. I think that we as adults need to be conscious of what we say since we know that obviously a Disney message board is going to draw in kids. If you want to be ugly to people there are plenty of other places to do it, no need to do it here as well.

AEfx,

Please post a list of those you antagonize so that they may defend themselves in public. Your attack borders on cowardly and only angers those who may not be on your "list".

Nowhere in the original post were the words, "Premium Members" used, however, you seem to use it in your post to suggest that those that cause the problems are "Premium Members".

Someone, in this thread mentioned how these boards aren't like others on the net; there is a reason for that....Steve and the other moderators do a spectacular job, considering all the trash they have to deal with on a daily bases. This site gets a huge number of spammers, trolls, etc (and we don't even know the specifics, add to that dealing with all this)...many people out there HATE wdwmagic.com....because they have tried to stir trouble here before (like they would in the typical message board community and were banned)...wdwmagic.com is NOT your typical boards...the people who post here and frequent this site, and yes contribute to help with the running cost, LOVE this site...and protect it, as if the site was their own property...

Personally, while I respect your opinion, I do not agree with it...things sometimes aren't what they seem...

You think there is some kind of special treatment for a few and you ARE WRONG. Everyone has to follow the rules here...the history of this place proves that statement.

Another entertaining thread. :sohappy:
Anybody sit back and read where this has gone? Pretty funny to be honest.
And also pretty sad. It's good to see tolerance and acceptance are strong and thriving in this world. Especially in a Disney forum. Name calling and insults.
Great stuff. Keep going so I have something to keep me from getting any work done today. Seeing as we ALL know it all about Disney, why talk about it. Let's talk about something we know nothing about. And that's each other! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:
