DINOSAUR Refurb?

After a recent update to the ride that added lasers, I stopped looking into Dinosaur for a little while. I decided to check up on it today. Attractions Magazine posted a video last month and WOW was it a difference. New lighting, a smoke geyser, neon stuff, meteor effects, the ride looks pretty bright now. You can see where you're going. My question is: When did this happen, and why?

I don't think it had a hard refurb, but I think they have been taking the time to fix the effects.

Once more stuff opens in AK, it will probably get a hard refurb (although, IMO, EE needs it much worse)

I saw the video thinking some crazy lighting changes had happened at Dinosaur, and visited AK as soon as I could and it didn't really look like it changed at all. Just as dark and blacklighty as I left it. Either my eyes weren't working right or that video was doing some crazy stuff.

I'd love to see Dinosaur get refurbed and really bring back some older effects (moving compsognathus and pterodactyl) to restore the ride's intensity. I mean, it's already pretty wild but has anyone seen that video doing a play-by-play ride through of Countdown to Extinction? I'd love to have been able to ride that.

Completely agree! This ride need some love. The dinosaurs need a lot of work! Hopefully once avatar opens it will get a refurb!

I'm still suprised that with all the mapping projection technology, that they haven't put in something to replace the old laser net that captured the Iguanodon. You would think that would be an easy fix, and effective of done right!

Never trust a video for show lighting.

Lasers weren't added as part of a regular refurb.
Sorry, I meant just added in, not as in a refurb. I just remember a thread a few months back. I thought that it looked pretty different but it probably was the video as you said. Seems like that happened with Little Mermaid too.

It's in much better shape than the river adventure at island of adventure.. And Ellen.. So I'm grateful for that.

I can't get over the fact that you see the concrete and machinery in the water on Jurassic park and then seeing the t-Rex stable for 10-15 seconds before the drop.

I guess brown dye and turning off a couple of lights would break the bank over at IOA.

Disney's version also has the advantage of moving past the AAs very fast so it seems like the AAs are more intense than what they actually are. Whereas Uni has slow moving boats and the dinos are just kinda awkwardly "attacking" you by standing perfectly still and moving their arms and head up and down :hilarious:

That's also true. Both Dino rides definitely have major issues. What kills me, though, is how easy the two JP issues should be to fix. That T-Rex is an AMAZING animatronic, but they just don't light it correctly.

As much as I love Uni, JP is in horrible condition. Was excited for it on my first trip and it ended up being a big disappointment. Not only does the T-Rex scene have horrible lighting, so does the rest of the ride. The long ramp you go up is so dark that you can only make out shadows of the animatronics. The T-Rex itself was in awful looking shape when I went. I know Uni isn't fantastic in the animatronics department, but videos had made it look better. So herky-jerky that you could almost see the mechanics.

The ending is also anti-climactic, since you just round the corner and suddenly- T-Rex and drop! At least Hollywood's has some suspense with music and a countdown.

Sorry about that rant- I know this is a Disney forum and all but that needed to be said!

I don't want this to turn too much into disney vs uni, but I have to disagree with the animatronics are similar. Dinosaurs are way more realistic and even the molds are more realistic even with lights on and moving past slowly. Although Disney is known for there AA figures I suppose. I hope they one day upgrade the Dino's on JP!
