Ah yes. The old name, the old statue and the fountain/pond before they killed it with the tall walls around it. (And the family in the background demonstrating exactly why they added those walls...)-Rob

I just want this back....I know it's never going to happen, but one can hope right!? At least we have some photographs for memories!View attachment 87125

I'm just going to leave this here......

I've been on Dinosaur exactly twice. The first time (in the very first ride vehicle, on the very first ride of the day, just after rope drop), the Alioramus and its prey were spotlighted but completely immobile and several effects seemed not to be working -- the Carnotaurus slid in our direction but didn't open its mouth or "do" anything, to the point that our on-ride photo showed a bunch of bored and/or confused guests.

The second time around, two years later, the Alioramus and Carnotaurus appeared to be working, but several other dinos weren't, and ride operators seemed to be attempting to mask that fact by dimming the lighting so dramatically that you could barely see anything at all -- we were all just jerking around in the dark listening to the soundtrack.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed both times -- was my experience anomalous, or is Dinosaur typically more functional?

That's about par for the course.

This was my exact experience last year. I had ridden the original ride back in the day many times and loved it. Last year I took my daughter and wife (who had never ridden it) and we literally just jerked back and forth and up and down in pitch black for the entire ride, listening to the soundtrack. We all left the ride underwhelmed, aggravated and slightly queezy... not enough to get sick, but enough to feel a little "off" for the next couple of hours. We absolutely hated the experience. I will not ride this again until it is refurbed.

I think some sizable set pieces would be a big (and inexpensive) improvement. So, in parts where it's currently dark, they could have a few trees, rocks (falling/moving rocks?), etc., with some lighting on them. I hope they do that in the post-Pandora refurb.

Also, can anyone tell me if they still start the preshow while people are entering the room (rather than when everyone is there to see it in its entirety, like ToT, RnRC, TT, M:S, and practically every other ride with a preshow). If so, why in the world do they do that? It's very unprofessional and takes away from the show. It's not as though the line is too long and they have to speed people through.

They get more capacity per hour I believe and since they only have 2 pre-show theaters they try to fit as many as they can..I also think they should add a little more to those pre show theaters it's the most basic and untheme scenes in the entire attraction. Making it look like a paleontology lab or something to brighten it up just a little bit would be better.

I wonder if they could update the preshow when/if they update the ride. Maybe give it a new host and update the ride narration audio as well. If Disney wanted to be cheeky they could get Chris Pratt.

Of course, other than damaging the theming in Dinoland as a whole, there's no real reason the preshow couldn't be animated. If they really wanted to have fun they could license Rick and Morty.

Meh...Gravity Falls would work perfectly for the entire Dinoland as Grunkle Stan Buys it out calling it Grunkle Stan's Dinoland. And the Mystery Shack Dino Venture...They could rebuild the Portal to take guest to see Dino's...

All Dinoland really needs is a cohesive theme. I really do believe the theme should be more real world and scientific. It could be one giant Fossil dig site/ research facility. Bring in the excavator and possibly a dark ride to do with prehistoric marine life or the Ice Age and there we go. 3 solid attractions (two being family oriented), plus eating areas, a place for kids to play, and shops.

CTX would just be the main thrill ride for the area that actually put you face to face with real dinosaurs. The concept of Dinosaurs alone has so much potential and possibilities that I think its hard to sometimes choose a cohesive theme. Dinosaur in itself could carry a mini land based solely on the Dino Institute. The problem is that ride basically takes you back in time to see dinosaurs, so having a land with roaming dinosaurs....would not make much sense with the story being told.

Idk. So many ideas in my head, but I am not an Imagineer....yet! ;) Hopefully one day Dinoland will get the attention it so needs and deserves!

I totally agree. The idea of dinosaurs truly captures the public's imagination, and Dinoland is a complete underutilization of that. I was walking around Cars Land at DCA recently, and it struck me that the *amazing* rockwork styles there could be tweaked to fit in Dinoland (on a smaller scale, so that not visible from Asia, of course). Re-theme the area as the world's most impressive fossil-find / paleontological site, with fossils in the different layers of rock, etc. It could have a family-friendly dig-site coaster like the Excavator in place of Dino-Rama. Then anchor the land with an updated "Dinosaur: Countdown to Extinction" that has more set pieces / scenery to go through (replacing the darkness, which could really make it one of Disney's greatest attractions ever, it has that potential with some more scenery) and a shorter pre-show (so they can wait until everyone walks to start the show without sacrificing capacity) in a better-themed pre-show area (perhaps a laboratory, as another user suggested earlier in this thread). I think a Dinoland like this could be a huge hit and a major draw to the park (and WDW in general).
