DINOSAUR Refurb?

I wonder if they could update the preshow when/if they update the ride. Maybe give it a new host and update the ride narration audio as well. If Disney wanted to be cheeky they could get Chris Pratt.

Of course, other than damaging the theming in Dinoland as a whole, there's no real reason the preshow couldn't be animated. If they really wanted to have fun they could license Rick and Morty.

First off, I didn't expect this thread to resurface...

Anyway, I don't think Rick and Morty is exactly Disney family friendly material, but that would be hilarious! I do agree that a new host is due though, I'm just not sure who or what it would be. Some new scenery as mentioned before would also bump up the immersion of the ride and make it less of a warehouse with some leaves ridethrough. Maybe a couple small new animatronics could be added too? Let's just hope that the ride gets a big refurb after Pandora opens.

All Dinoland really needs is a cohesive theme. I really do believe the theme should be more real world and scientific. It could be one giant Fossil dig site/ research facility. Bring in the excavator and possibly a dark ride to do with prehistoric marine life or the Ice Age and there we go. 3 solid attractions (two being family oriented), plus eating areas, a place for kids to play, and shops.

CTX would just be the main thrill ride for the area that actually put you face to face with real dinosaurs. The concept of Dinosaurs alone has so much potential and possibilities that I think its hard to sometimes choose a cohesive theme. Dinosaur in itself could carry a mini land based solely on the Dino Institute. The problem is that ride basically takes you back in time to see dinosaurs, so having a land with roaming dinosaurs....would not make much sense with the story being told.

Idk. So many ideas in my head, but I am not an Imagineer....yet! ;) Hopefully one day Dinoland will get the attention it so needs and deserves!
I feel like DInoland's already cohesive in theory: It's a microcosm of America's relationship with Dinosaurs, from our rich fossil beds and esteemed museums to roadside kitsch. Heck, you can point to an actual town that's basically Dinoland: Vernal, Utah just outside the Dinosaur National Monument.

Problem is that Dinorama gets the character of Roadside kitsch all wrong and made a stupid carnival. Keep the concept of a roadside attraction in a revised Dinoland, but go for more of a Jungle Cruise-esque experience with animated cheesy roadside dino-sculptures, maybe rescuing and restoring a few from abandoned dino parks around the country.

Yeah I get that it's themed to an extent, I just think it's tacky for the Animal Kingdom! Which is why I said it would be nice if it were to be more real world

Also, can anyone tell me if they still start the preshow while people are entering the room (rather than when everyone is there to see it in its entirety, like ToT, RnRC, TT, M:S, and practically every other ride with a preshow).

This is one of my biggest peeves. The preshow is an important part of the setup to any given attraction. And the stupid CMs who decide that they just need to push people through need to be replaced by someone who understands show.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed both times -- was my experience anomalous, or is Dinosaur typically more functional?

I'd have to say that, at least for me, it's not at all typical. I've been on Dinosaur when different effects haven't been working. But usually there's more than enough going on to make it a fun attraction.

I don't blame the CM.
Their main job is to make sure that people make it through the preshow fast enough so as not to starve load. If the preshow is so long that it's effecting the hourly capacity of the main ride, it needs to be edited down until it doesn't.

And I would counter that the timing of the preshow was calculated when the attraction was designed, and a steady flow of people into the preshow should guarantee a steady flow of people ready to load. I still think it's the CM who doesn't understand the importance of show.

That preshow was designed and timed before they installed a fastpass merge point right before the entrance to the preshow room.
Now that there's a merge point there, the show is too long, and needs to be edited down by a couple minutes.
Again, the CM overseeing the preshow room is absolutely not the one to blame.

The pre show is unique and it's something this attraction needs. I don't really see how it could be trimmed down. It sets up the mission and intensity so well.

And that's what I'm suggesting. A much more grounded Dinosaur roadside attraction-based attraction instead of this over-the-top carnival with dinosaurs that clearly sprung out of a Disney professional's pen and not the themed design equivalent to outsider art that actual roadside dinosaur sculptures often are.

The only way to slice it down...Eliminate the Dr Marsh opening and jump right to Dr. Seeker..
