Did I find a Utilidor entrance?

This June, I was waiting outside the Pirates of the Caribbean, and my curiousity led me to a long hallway. At the end of this hallway, there was an elevator and a staircase going down. There was a mirror in the corner for safety. After that, I thought I was going to get tasered or banished, so I went back.

Am I on to something here?

I've come out that way when the moving walkway from the boat unload area was being repaired... No Utilidor entrance that I saw!

What you came upon was the elevator for guests in wheelchairs who need to use them going to the ride.

I am pretty sure you found the wheelchair entrance. We took my mother-in-law through that area once to enter the POC. It wasn't marked with a sign saying it was an entrance. A cast member took us in that way.

lol, "Don't tase me bro!"

May I ask what the utilidor is?
It was created by Walt because when he was in DL he had seen a CM from frontierland walking through tomorrowland to get to where he was working and it ruined the magic. So the tunnels allow CM's to get to where they are working that day without being seen in the wrong place.

what you saw was in fact the wheelchair elevator.

if you had gotten anywhere close to a utilidore entrance you would have been removed from the park.

..and it worked so well they never built a park with one again.

No, really...is it just cost? Why did they choose not to utilize this system in the other parks?

Well for EPCOT there really wasn't a need for it in future world, and the CM's for WS enter from the rear. I don't know about DHS because we have been up front and have seen different CM's walking across the front end by the gates in different costumes. The only other reasons could be cost and the land they built on may not have allowed for such construction.

Good question. My guess is maybe because all the other WDW parks have one coherant theme, where as MK has several with the different lands and stuff. I know there are different uniforms and different sections, and it can be weird to see a ToT bellhop somewhere else in MGM, but imo it doesnt ruin the effect as much as seeing something like that at the MK. Just a guess, but it may be because of money.

The correct answer for the studios is because in a Movie Studio, you could quite possibly see a Cowboy walking through a Jungle set to get to his shoot location. At AK CMs should be using the proper routes and methods of transportation to get to their destinations so as not to be mixing costumes and lands...

If you're speaking of international parks, I couldn't tell you, but could ask in a few weeks.
