DHS to Get the DCA Treatment?

I think that this is the best idea I've heard thus far concerning the themed studio lands. Then just name it "The Studios" or something different. I'm really not a fan of the name "Disney's Hollywood Studios".

Why? After all, despite all of the stuff from non-Disney properties, it is STILL a Disney park...

And speaking of all that stuff, the phrase "too many cooks spoil the broth" comes to mind...is DHS going to be a hodge-podge of acquired properties and off-studio "guest stars", or is it going to be a cohesive celebration of Disney movie magic? I think that's the choice TDO has to make here, and let's hope it makes the right one. Buena Vista Street and Carsland at DLR are huge hits WITHOUT the addition of Muppets or Marvel, which to my mind proves: who needs them?

I am not an Avatar hater, but I would take a DHS make-over over Avland any day.

Of course, by the time TDO is done with it, it'll take 6 years to build, consist primarily of meet and greets and include a water play area as one of the main features. At the cost of an existing ride, of course.
I agree! I like Avatar, but when I go to Disney it is not to see Avatar. I want to see Disney products. Give me a dark ride based on Sleeping Beauty. How about something else involving Alice in Wonderland than the teacups. Such a rich and stunningly beautiful story done a disservice by some spinning cups. Something as simple as a Tiana's Palace restaurant would help. Enhance the parks with the ideals and stories that endear us to Disney, not something you bought and want to remake. We need more Disney rides and entertainment, not Avatar and Marvel.

They just overlaid the survey drawing of a recent notice onto an aerial photo. The article was just about work in the queue and tram area - it doesn't say anything actually inferring larger change. Its more 'leaps' than anything.
I see. I hadn't even followed the link over to Merf's site to see what all the doodling was.
This is nothing major at all. There are several proposals to extend guest areas back that way, but what this permit is talking about isn't one of them.

Still wondering what happened to the photo albums....

BRAVO!!!! Totally agree. If people want Muppets, they can go to Sesame Place. If they want superheroes, there's Six Flags and Universal. Let Disney be Disney!

My apologies. I didn't mean to exclude the Disney name. But if there were a "Hollywood Studios" "land" according to this set up, I can't imagine keeping the name of the park "Hollywood Studios". It'd be like Fantasyland being called Magic Kingdom inside Magic Kingdom.

As for the rest, if they could actually section it off to visit different studios as was proposed with more attractions & rides then I don't see how it would be very different from what DHS already has. Other than Pixar Place, it's hard to generalize where you are in DHS in terms of "lands" to me. Giving each a studio name doesn't sound all that theme-altering to me.

Can't debunk what I can't really understand. Just looks like red doodling on a photo.

If I assume that it somehow shows the guest areas expanding back into the production areas, then yes, it kinda fits what I've been hearing for years. I had a diagram in my photo album here on the site....those albums still here?
Yea I was kinda hoping someone could explain the photo to me as well. The original blueprint in the link was even worse to me. Thanks to the OP for kinda putting the satellite image under it, but it's still confusing & doesn't really explain much. Thanks, Lee.
I figured someone with more talent would pick it up and do a better job, but no one came to the rescue.
And I can't really figure out whats being changed?? Any idea there??
Edit: Just saw you're other post. It's unfortunate that this really means nothing.

The Great Muppet Movie Ride is a separate thing from GMR. Not an overhaul.

I know that, but its not out of the question that they would look at replacing the great movie ride with the great muppet movie ride. I doubt they will, but I wouldnt be surprised if they tossed the idea around before.

Question - Does anyone at MiceAge or WDWMagic actually know anyone who works at Team Disney Orlando? It seems like people are trying to create villains.

Noooooo. When they have "Traditions" training for all new WDW employees, they specifically say NEVER to call it "The Studios" because tourists are stupid and assume you mean Universal as easily as Disney's (fill in the blank) Studios

I think this is the first time I've heard any one say they DONT want to door coaster... any particular reasons why?

As part of a bigger expansion where it isn't the focal point I'm all for it. If it's a singular attraction by itself I don't think it would work.

Ever seen for or waited in the line for Crush's coaster at Disney Studios Paris? I have. 120 minutes on even slow days with no fastpass. I would worry about the door coaster having the same problem

But wouldn't that apply to Pixar as well? That means Carsland, along with the rest, would fall under the same umbrella. Not to mention some of the biggest E Tickets Disney has produced in the last few years, inclduing Star Tours, Tower of Terror (which, granted, has been modified successfully without the Twilight Zone theme in TDS) and Indiana Jones at Disneyland.

I agree that there are some places where the character and properties don't fit. Personally, I don't think Marvel fits in any park, I'm not a huge fan of the Avatar idea in DAK, and I don't think Carsland fits the theme of the Studios, no matter how muddled it is. However, I think the Muppets are a perfect fit. Instead of being an attraction based on a movie, it could be a ride about the movies, told in the Muppets irreverent style. The theme should match the attraction and the attraction should match the theme. I think that's why Indiana Jones in Disneyland works so well in Adventureland.

There has to be a happy medium, and I think Disney needs to create more quality content, and should reply on that first, as well as cool down the recent buying property spree, but there are some ways things can work in a particular setting. The main issue is TDO, WDI, or whoever else lately doesn't seem to understand overall theme and cohesiveness, which is why Monsters Inc is in Tomorrowland, Aladdin is in Adventureland, and the like.

Just my $.02

I still think the answer for this park is themed studios lots. It sticks with the movie theme and is in essence already there it just needs to be beefed up.

Pixar Studio - Add a couple more rides, take over the backlot.Move Pizza Planet. Do Ride and Go Seek and make the incredibles an awesome ride. For characters that are always out they have no ride! Totally take over the backlot. Add in the kiddy bugs rides and toy story rides. Ratatouille. The only thing I wouldn't add is Wall-e because that should be a new tomorrowland dark ride in place of Stitch.

Lucasfilm Studio - Star Tours, Indy - I'd add a second star wars ride or an actual indy ride. The stunt show needs to go. Restaurants.
Muppet Studios - Keep MuppetVision, add a ride, Turn Mama Melrose into a Muppet Restaruant and same for Pizza Planet
Walt Disney Studios - Revamp the Area, keep the drawing class, lose the rest, Build Florida Toon Town here. Bring Back the houses but make them super interactive.
Hollywood Studios - This is sunset boulevard.

No i know this can never happen but Streets of New York would be the perfect Marvel Studios because Marvel is all about New York.

Finally revamp the movie ride.

Agree with the recommendations. My understanding is that WDI created a plan for a DCA Incredibles attraction which could possibly be adapted for DHS. This, plus another ride or two in an expanded Pixar Place, could add a great deal to the overall perception of the park.

Because I don't see Marvel coming to WDW for many years, I'd like to see the streets of NY area incorporated into an indoor/outdoor attraction. Possibly a ride based on Up or the Incredibles that starts and ends in a building that replaces the BLT queue. With the technology available today, it seems like a track system could be added atop the facades that would allow riders to feel like they are floating just above the buildings. Just a thought.

New wrinkle in my brain. Thanks for the info. And you're absolutely right, I get so annoyed saying "Disney's Hollywood Studios" because even when I say "Disney" in front of it, everyone thinks I'm talking about Universal. Regardless, IMO, something needs done about the name so this confusion stops. When it was MGM, as a general rule, people knew the difference. It's really frustrating to me.
